Problems with downtime...Asher is six and is driving me crazy in his downtime. He is truly an ABA/overprogramed kiddo. He dosen't know what to do with himself when we aren't tell him what to do. When he was 3/4, it wasn't a problem b/c he had so much enengy, he could just run around the house all day...plus he had more intensive ABA/tablework. Now, he has calmed down a little but is somewhat lost. He loves the computer but we really have to limit that (he will stim on the same games). He will not watch TV. He is over his whole hyperlexic-let's-draw shapes/letters/numbers all day. He (like most other kids) won't just "read a book". Any thoughts, he is making me nuts. Raquel Same problem here: QUOTE " He is truly an ABA/overprogramed kiddo. He dosen't know what to do with himself when we aren't tell him what to do."QUOTEBecause of soo many years of ABA, son gets bored easily. It is so difficult because I can't always be telling him what to do, play with him. I have housework and another child to deal with. Anyway, suggestion given to me was to make a play schedule for him, like the work, day schedule they have at school. Set everything up ahead of time, give him a specific area to play in. As he finishes playing with one thing, he should take off schedule and go to next. I am setting it up this week. Sounded like a good idea. I'll let you know how it works out. |
