constipation

Okay, I'm no poop expert, but I think that sometimes in cases of severe or chronic constipation you can have the watery greenish poo.   Is it just a little bit and really watery?  It could be that what you are seeing is the little bit of watery stuff that can get out around the impacted poop that is stuck in the intestine.  I only know this b/c that's what the doc told us when my older dd had constipation problems when she was young.

Either way, it doesn't sound normal.  You should probably check w/ the doctor b/c if your child is that constipated you need to do something about it.  It can become a chronic condition.

Luke used to sometimes go for a week or more between poops ... and when he went, there was no denying the pain and difficulty of the pooping!  My sweet little son once had a poop (no exagerration) about 7 inches long and about 1.5 in wide!  You're right ... green and loose does NOT mean constipation.

Thank goodness, now his poops are soft and frequent. Isn't that something only a mother would say?
LOL Kellie! The stories I could tell.... but I won't....

Because the water is going around the stool, when they finally do poop, it is usually dry and hard.  The green stool..hmmm I have been seeing that, too. I thought it was something that he ate...when I can get him to eat. (go-gurt)

have you checked into crohns disease or Irritable bowel syndrone *if* it isn't diet.... mind you I am not a dr, and you should look more into it yourself!!

I know IBS means chronic constipation and the green is the bodys way of doing some house cleaning... both have similar symptoms.

any ideas to get dkaot to drink more water, have done the half juice/ half koolaid water , also the only furits he likes are bananas any suggestions what type of fruit and veggies to try for his diet. thanks hey sherrt,my ds was just dx with leaky gut syndrome. Were he's is constipated then has some loose stools that leak around the big hard one.We have to use miralax and it does cause really loose stool, but hopefully his gut will learn to work properly in time. Were also going to have him tested for allergies too.Maybe you can ask your peds for the # of a nutrionist in your area that you can give a call too.mom2carloMy daughter, Samantha, has chronic constipation since birth.  She has a wonderful diet, but it doesn't help.  Sam has been on miralax for the last 2 years.  We also give her suppositories and enemas when she is impacted and withholding.  Constipation is tough stuff :(  Good luck. They always told me apples (not applesauce, mind you, but apples) and pears.

When Luke had gone for about a week without pooping, we gave him a child's suppository.  It worked like a *charm*.
does having green sometimes loose sometimes formed stool mean a child is constipated. i sometimes ahve to give dakota miralax but usually every few days. anysuggestions, i dont want to give him diarrhea. just got back from mcdonald's his favorite place he still tries to hit the kids i guess to get thei r attentino since he is not verbal.  Green and loose doesn't mean constipation, if anything it would mean diarrhea.  If he's constipated it would be a long time in between poops and they'd be in obvious discomfort as they were pooping.
