Your opinion pleaseI have had soooooooooooo many books recommended to me and many of them prove to be an expensive waste. Does anyone here have an opinon about CHILDREN WITH STARVING BRAINS????????? Thanks in advance Hello Jean...I own the book and think it is terrific but it really centers around "attacking" autism with bio-med treatments (which I am sure you know). What I found to be useful in the book is the break down of necessary vitamins and how they can help our kids (what the functions are and signs of a deficiency). I don't consider myself radical (but what radical does - lol) but I think some of the bio-med approaches will be helpful for our son (we have seen successes with changes in vitamins (high dose B6, calcium supplements, etc.) and with the GF/CF soy free diet. I use it as a reference all of the time. Check with your local library- ours had a copy. Also, your local ASA, children's hospital, etc might have acopy. Or even other parents with ASD kids. I'm all about borrowing books- LOL! HI MY SON IS JUST 4 AND GETTING HIM TO EAT ANYTHING OTHER THAN CHICKEN NUGGETTS AND FRENCH FRIES.THEN WE GAVE HIM A VITAMIN COCKTAIL EVERY MORNING IN HIS SIPPY CUP WITH HIS SOY MILK,WHICH HE WAS ALREADY TAKING EVERY MORNING THE TASTE IS NOT BAD SO HE KEPT TAKING IT ITS CALLED RELIVE FOR KIDS. My fiances son always use to eat chicken nuggets and fries but i was able to get him to try and eat new foods. Just was consistent and let him know that what i have made for him is better for him and will give him the vitamins and nutrients that he will need to become big and strong. He loves all the new foods now and praises to others on how good my lasagna is. Dont give up just be persistent and consistent. Nicholas is PDD-NOS - mildly. Adam only ate Hot dogs for the longest time. Now won't touch them. Of Course he will eat pizza every day if we let him. I think some of it has to do with sensory stuff. But I was told to offer them something everyday even if you don't think they will eat it. It can take up to 10x offering before they may even try it. It has helped us. He ate baked pototoes for the first time last week. my main concern is that this boy is almost 100 lbs and is only 7 and has asthma on top of it all we buy him clothes and 2 weeks later they dont fit, the dr advised us to put him on a diet and watch what he eats and get him exercising so that is what we do but we only get him every other wknd and a day or so through the week but its hard when his one parent wont jump on board she just keeps saying how everyone is an idiot especially if they are male what an environment for your son to grow up in...i just dont get it...also my fiance wants more time with his son and she is trying to get everything taken from him bec we are insensitive to his needs, but i dont get it we get praised from professionals on what we are doing and the accomplishments we have overcome with Nicholas hmmmm just dont get it i feel so bad for Nicholas as he is now in the middleGreat information in that book. That was the first book we got when Gia was diagnosed. The diet was the first thing we did to help Gia and IT WORKS great. It's not going to cure them but it's going to help their behavior, stimming, sleeping and YOUR SANITY!!I am doing the biomedical treatment with my dd (Doc out of Jacksonville, FL). I use the book as a guide. Before I started the treatment, I used it as a guide to provide dd w/ supplements, probiotics and diet changes. I like the book, but I think it is only useful to a certain point because the rest of the treatments really needs to be monitored by a doctor. There is a great website - www.tacanow.com that offers a lot of information about biomedical treatments and gfcf diets. William Shaw wrote a couple books re: biological approaches to the treatment of autism (primarily focuses on yeast) The books by Lisa Lewis called Special Diets for Special Kids and Special Diets for Special Kids Two has an introduction to the reasoning of the gfcf diet.
