Tried no dairy,FRUSTRATED
I definitely agree with your husband. The diet can be tricky and it really is best to do it under doctors supervision. April is only a few months away.My son is also 11. We tried the diet in Oct. (2007) and took him off it 7 weeks later. Not for him. Many reasons. There is an adjustment period both when you start diet and when you go back to regular food/drink. Did you ever try lactose free milk? It works wonders for us, even though my son is not lactose intolerant. Good luck. I strongly suggest Dr., however many parents here have done diet without doctor (most of these children are young - don't know if that makes a difference?) The rule for dairy is 3 weeks. Thats about how long it takes for it to be totally removed from the system and for the body to go thru its "withdrawls". For the first week of casein free my son was a terror and we caved and gave him cheese and it was horrible. I know its tough but by about the 2 and a half week mark we noticed a big change. It takes time and like it or not any child deprived of something they crave is going to complain. My son who never asked for cheese before was asking for cheese non-stop and for the life of me I couldn't remember a time when he had actually had it but they know. Its like a drug, once you take it away they will crave it and some will sneak it. We removed it from the house completely so that even if he opened the fridge(which he did) it wasn't there. The dairy is the easiest(believe it or not) because it doesn't take as long to get out of the system. Gluten on the other hand can take as long as 3 months or longer depending on the child. |
