StimmingI should know, but is he verbal? I think I have read that he is not?
I have read that language delay/disorders are linked to stimming.... And that sometimes the emergence of language alleviates some stims. The DAN! Dr (not that he is an expert, of course) told me the same as well. I should know, but is he verbal? I think I have read that he is not?
Tried to edit.... Hmmmm..... That is the first thing I noticed with my little guy that made me worry... He was putting his hand up in front of his face and stimming... He is being evaluated too. He is also non-verbal (28 mos). He has begun talking a little bit in the past month - and doing some signs - and I think his stimming has decreased. But we also started fish oil and probiotics. So who knows (his stimming actually increased the first week we did them, though). The only REAL time I see his stim now is when he is forced to sit at the kitchen table - forced to sit still.... So we have been working on signing/saying "all done". I don't know what is working and what is not, but I'm trying everything. I was also told by our neurologist that language delays or developmental delays can also result in stimming behaviors. Sensory Integration/Processing Disorder/Disfuntion causes stimming. B has SID and Jacob doesn't. B stims alot more than Jacob does. Not that Jacob doesn't have his own stims, but much less extreme than B.also PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuorlogical Disorder Associated with Strep) causes tics/scripting/stim like behavior.. I know, super random sounding and not as much fun as actual pandas which are cute and cuddly.. my brother had it and scripted/twitched a lot.. probably not what your son has, but I wanted to toss it out anyway My non-ASD 11y dd stims more than my HFA 8y son. She has severe anxiety. The more anxiety she is having--the more she stims. She flaps--but only one hand/wrist. She likes spinning also. Lots of sensory issues. Not sure the cause but stimming was greatly reduced in my little one after starting diet and supplements. Do you ask this because you don't want it to be Autism? I understand where you are coming from , but from everything you have posted so far it souonds like that is what it might be. I am not a doctor , by far by we all post to get each others opinions. My dd has some of the same stims as your ds. Especially when excited or nervous or when pressured or asked to do something. He is also non-verbal, which is also points in the spectrum direction. Hopefully soon you will know and from that point on life may be a long and rocky road. But look what you got , He is so adorable!Thank You all for the response. I just wish this nightmare would end. I would love to know what is wrong with my son. |
