our first IEP is today!!

That is wonderful news!  I am soooo glad for you and your family.  It is great that  you found a place that is willing to help him!  Volunteering is great!  Not only do you get to see what is going on in the classroom, but also the school staff will KNOW who YOU are.  Since my child has been moved to a bigger classroom..bigger than what I expected, I, too, am gonna volunteer some time there.  However, last year when I volunteered, they turned me down.  Last year was last year...this year is this year.  I will, again, offer my service to them.  Smile

Thank you for your support!! I am SSSOOOO EXCITED!! We ended up taking Paul Jr. with us today to the IEP and his new teacher and therapists' were thrilled that they got to meet him. They had the recent reports that where done in CA but they didn't do any testing with him here.

He got to play in his new classroom while we went through all the paperwork. They let him paint and throw rice everywhere. The room looked like a tornado went through it by the time he was done LOL! They already asked me to volunteer in his room and they want him to return on Tuesday (school starts on Wednesday) so he can spend some more time in the room and with the teachers so the transition will be easier on him.

We got everything that we asked for and then some. His teacher even does home visits 1-2 times a year! The S.T. was really excited that she has to learn sign language again. . I am just relieved it went so well. Maybe I will be able to sleep tonight .

Our first IEP meeting is this afternoon. We finally got confirmation last week that our son is enrolled in the Autistic Preschool program here. He will have 18 hours of school a week. 10 hours of that time will be with the Peer Model program. My husband and I went to the school to look around and we got to meet with Paul Jr.'s teacher and see his classroom. There is one teacher and two aides for 6 ASD kids and 4 peer models. The bus will come right to our door and they will provide a car seat for him. I talked to the teacher yesterday and it looks like they are giving us everything we asked for.

I did write up a five page list of signs he uses, words he says, foods he eats, chores he does, ect. and broke it all down into catigories. Hopefully it will help the teacher, ST, and OT all stay on the "same page" so to speak.

I'm saying lots of prayers that this afternoon goes as easily as it's sounding. *keeping my fingers crossed*

~Brooke~
