Thanks!
WIMom, that's basically what we had, too...a language stall from age 2 to 4.
Thanks, ((Chaos)).
Awww, I'm so happy for you and C!
My youngest son's language development essentially stalled from age 2 to age 4. He did have some single words at age 2, and between ages 3 & 4 he did have a couple functional phrases to get some of his basic needs met. (ie - "I want water.") At age 4, his language started to develop again. His vocabulary started to grow, and he began putting words together. However, he didn't learn any of his language skills by simply being around other children. It had to be specifically taught. He still had a 2 1/2 to 3 year delay until just before age 6. We had started a VB/ABA program, and his language took off. All of his therapists seem to think his language will eventually catch up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
I am so glad to hear that C isn't the only one who has developed this way and that language seems to have taken off from this point for most kids. It may be selfish, but I really want to know C better, and even though I feel most of the time like I know him inside and out, the way my particular brain works is that language kind of fleshes things out and fills in the cracks, so to speak. Maybe that's a fault of my wiring and not C's.
Actually, it probably is...his way of doing it is a lot more intuitive...my way is more blatant. Whatever...I just want to "get to know" him in more detail...to have him tell me that he loved or hated school that day or that he likes green more than blue. I am so excited and happy with this new development.Good job mommy ... keep it up .... it only gets better.
I would think that it can only get better.
Yay C!
This is wonderful news. Hope its a break through for your son. LizThat is exactly how it happened with the boys! They always babbled too, constantly, sunup to sundown, use to drive me crazy, no words though. Or no consistant words or words that had meaning, then they gained a few of them slowly. Then I got them baby bumblebee and they started labeling everything. They just tested as a 3 year old speech level, most of it has come in in the last 6 months. Really bad pronunciation though. I would definitely hope.
ETA: The speech path pointed out to me a month or two ago that what we thought was babbling really wasn't. Nikolas wasn't always looking at us when he was speaking to us and he was sort of doing it to himself so we all thought it was babbling but she was really listening one day and he was actually talking to her and she didn't realize it. Made me wonder how much of that babbling wasn't really babbling all that time. You might want to try really listening when it sounds like babble.

Great news! Yes, he is talking. Makes life a bit easier
