We have a meeting this Thurs. to update Anna's IEP. Any tips are appreciated.
Her old IEP she wasn't very verbal and never spoke a word to the teachers or aids....this year she is verbal and trying to express herself to others. So I am going to ask that the goal be help her to understand "who, what and why questions" and work on vocabulary building.
Also, she isn't potty trained so that is a goal.
I have many others but I won't go on and on about it.
I suppose I should ask about any free services that I haven't been told about yet. I would like to have her vision tested but as of right now I can't afford it.
Any tips would be great..I live in Virgina.

I had a meeting with AJ's coordinator today. He was there last year (right before school was let out for the summer) he "remembers" what they said for his IEP for speech, too. He concurs with me that we were shafted cuz of the way they wrote it up. Ugh! So now we hafta start from scratch, AGAIN, to get AJ the help he NEEDS. Also, he suggested that I get the school to evaluate him to find out exactly what he does NEED. This is ALL new to me so who was I to question what the school was doing. I am "almost" possitive they KNEW what needed to be done! I asked him why the parents hafta "fight" to get what their child needs. Get this....he said it is cuz people won't fight..they will let is slide and then the school gets away with cutting corners, again. I am going to be nice, again, this time around, but I best see some action! IF not, I am willing to do whatever it takes to get AJ what he needs...even if it means going to court! I might hafta get a lil mean..gonna TRY to avoid it as much as I possibly can. IF a "fight" is what it takes, then a "FIGHT" it will be! Something helpful to me was to check my state's department of education website and look up "Related Services". I then went through the list to identify what would help Riley...then of course I formulated my request based on what his needs were/are and how it would benefit his education, and then formulated my "re-request" based on the "no" I assumed I would get. :(
