Since the end of august, my days have been filled with anxiety about how my DS was doing is school. The first half of this year was horrible, he was in reg ed, and it was a nightmare...i don't even know how I slept at night I really don't. I was just sick from the time he left for school in the am till he came home.
For the last month he has been in a special class. He has been doing OK, but hasn't really done anything academically, because of his behaviors everytime they would try. Today, they gave him a weighted vest to wear. His teacher said he loved it and it really helped to calm him down. For the first time they were able to work on all his school subjects today, without behviors. She said they got a lot accomplished academically today.
Im just so darn happy im crying. Just to know that finally, he is able to sit still long enough to do some work. Finally, we are making forward progress towards something. I had to tell someone, and quite frankly no one I know cares really. My family(my mom mostly but my sisters follow her lead) believes autism is a hoax, and PDD/ASD kids just need to learn to listen. I knew though, that the people here would totally understand how this little itsy bitsy step, no matter how insignificant it seems, is a real triumph for Gavin. and how much relief it brings me as well. Thanks for listening:)
And you know there's always someone available to listen here.
G's mom ... what great news! I know that when you find something that works it is like a HUGE ray of sunshine beating down on your deserving face. Keep the faith and keep us posted. I have learned so much from this board in a short time! Thanks for sharing. He is starting to learn and able to participate. It seemsWe as parents of kids on the spectrum have learned to appreciate things that most other people take for granted. That is awesome that they found a way that he could settle himself and do work. I hope it continues! We had a weighted blanket on ds' bed for a while and every once in a while I get it out again. He can't tolerate it nightly, but once in a while he needs it if he's had a rough day.
That's great news! There's nothing like finding the magic needed to get our kids to be able to learn! Congrats.Gavin is so handsome!Congrats! Your little man is so handsome.
They have supplied a hug vest for my son and it always provides that calming necessary for task completion.
Since you had such a rough start tp the year, it sounds like hearing this news was well deserved. Good for you...and especially good for Gavin.
BTW...Gavin is definitely a squeezer.......
Thanks for all your good wishes, and support. And, thank you for saying Gavin is handsome...he is the light of my life, truely. As I browse this board, and see all the pics of the kiddo's I realized I had never seen so many adorable kids in my life.
