Update any poop advice (and another ??) | Autism PDD

Well I whipped out the prunes (old baby food jar) and mixed it in applesauce and it did the trick... he had to go so bad he didn't have a choice!!

Also what are constipating foods and those that make you go??  I want to make sure to be giving him the right stuff!!

Popcorn is a good (that one surprised me), high fibre cereal (can make it into a snack mix after the cereal thing gets old... I add together a couple to make my own chex mix kinda thing)  I have a recipe for the sweet/salty mixture to make the bolts and bits stuff they put on the cereal and pretzels if your interested.

Add high fibre stuff like oats and stuff into mixes.  I use half flour and half bran (instead of full flour) or add bran into a muffin mix cause most of the time I'm lazy :P

Course there is always fruit... if you put it in jello, there's a higher chance it will get eaten ;)

Totally wish by closing doors, *I* could feel in control, lol, may have to try it next time hubby drives me up the wall....

My daughter gets constipated a lot...never give her cheese...to get her going I found what helps is giving her more water to drink instead of anything else and raisan bran cereal helps her go.

Pasta and I think white rice are constipaters (not too sure).

I do know that if they or we adults eat meat it needs to be eaten along w/high fiber foods in order for the digestive system to grab it and pull it along the colon highway to comodeville.

Also gravity...getting Anna to run around at the park or jump around the house gets it moving for her. If I let her she will sit for hours in the same place playing or gets in front of the tv and becomes a zombie.

What about orange juice?  OR is there something about citric acid that I don't know about?  I can't get AJ to drink water...i water his juice down, though.

Sometimes, however, holding back the BM can be a control thing.  The problem we had way back when with my NT daughter was she kept holding it back because she was so afraid to poopie in her pants - it was easier in her mind just not to go.  And the more stressed they get about it the worse it gets - we had to work on relaxation techniques in the potty - sounds strange but it worked for her!

I can't even imagine what it's going to be like when Ansley finally gets there - we're no where near potty training yet.  But she does sometimes whine and get scared when she has BM - I think she doesn't understand what's happening to her and it scares her....we may eventually have the same issues you're facing!

Things we did with Hannah..............we had books by every toilet to take her mind off of it and to keep her sitting there long enough to let it happen................we also (believe it or not) did breathing exercises! (deep breath in, let it out slowly on a sigh, then relax muscles.)  Somehow this actually helped her and for a long time we could tell whenever she was having a BM because we'd hear her breathing out on a sigh in the bathroom!

Hang in there, he's doing great to be as young as he is....even NT kids have issues with this sometimes.  Good luck!

Thank you so much for your responses!!

Jason actually already eats a pretty well balanced diet.  We don't eat white bread or pastas here... only whole wheat (he'ts not GFCF).  He doesn't get any juice except the VERY occasion (I am talking once a month maybe) diluted OJ as a special treat.  He LOVES beans and all fruits and veggies so I don't think his diet is the issue... I think its all about control like you said Amy... the question is how to you get them to let go???

What kind of relaxation techniques can you do wiht a 2.5 year old???
