NOT re: how the system works ... so putting in parents' section.
Do you know YOUR district's diagnosis rate?
Especially with PDD-NOS kids or milder cases ... I had suspected our district's was high -- and it IS -- 1/103. I was grateful this was shared with us, actually!
It is a good program ...
At my dd's school I know there are 4 kids for sure and that is a school of 435. So, that is 1:108. Within two years there will be 3 more added to that (my son and two others I know of). So that would make the potential number about 1:62 if all the other kids are still in the school. I definitely know it will still be lower than 1:108 because in 2 years I know of 5 kids that will be there at the same time.
Remember, these are kids who are mainstreamed. I have no idea if there are any kids from my school's boundaries that are in SDC.
kdchaos39398.4998842593I don't know our official rates, but I do know that there are 3 kids in kindergarten at my son's school who are on the spectrum. I think only 2 are diagnosed though. One little girl seems to have aspie traits to me. She's in special ed for social skills groups. The kindergarten class at my son's school has 21 students and Brendon who is in self contained special ed. That's 3 out of 22 just in one class. I'm not sure of the other grades though...I haven't had a chance to observe those kids like I have the kindergartners.
If I look in the right place, I can find the number of kids with various educational classifications by school year in California. What is interesting is to watch the numbers in the various classifications change with the year.
Here's the top link in case you live in CA, and you want to check out you local SD, county or whatever.
Dad2Luke&Alan39398.5917592593It shows 24 total for my county in CA which I think is understated. What I find interesting is that more than 1/2 that number are children aged 1-4.
