Any poop advice?? | Autism PDD

Sorry to hear your ds is going through that, my 5 year old NT also did that when having a BM. She would hold it in and cry and then finally let it out, but it caused her so much pain. She was so scared because she had that bad experience that for a year we had to calm her down and try to get her to go without holding it in or terrified of a BM. Our doctor suggested Enemas, and that worked for a little while, but I wouldnt recommend it. We just told her that her poopie needed to come out and see it's family and for her to say Bye-Bye to it We also read books to her while she was trying to go and that also seemed to help. I can sympathize with you because you feel helpless when there doing that and that there totally terrified to go. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully things will get better for your Ds

it might hurt for him to go to the bathroom.  ihe might be constipated and it is hard for him to go. is he using the big potty or a kids potty?

He uses a big potty... I know that that makes pooping worse cause their little feet don't hit the ground but he totally refuses to use the little ones (mommy and daddy go on the big one so he wants to do... always has).  I do think he is constipated and if not yet he will be shortly... when he does finally poop its never very much so I think he's either already constipated or he's holding it in which will ultimately make him constipated!!

My ds has same trouble... I think he is constipated and so it hurts and therefor he tries not to go.  To make it even yukkier, he feels his backside to check for evidence to see if he has gone!  ewwww!!

It's embarressing in public, as he screams no, no, no, in the bathroom stall with all the world to hear!

I give my ds a "cookie" one of those all bran bars a day to help make it easier.  Or popcorn (with nothing on of course).  I add high fibre stuff to muffins ect.

My son was completely potty trained for over 2 months and then all of the sudden became TERRIFIED of pooping in the potty.  He'll tell us he has to go, run to the potty, and sit up there but as soon as the poop starts to come out he cries, shakes, and says "no no no" and climbs right down???  I don't know what to do for him???  Any suggestions??   He's 2.5 and diagnosed PDD-NOS.

I haven't even tried to potty train ds so I haven't had this experience.....but could it be hemorrhoids? Goodness, I hope not.  Dh had a terrible time with hemorrhoids but after he was treated with a laser he felt so much better. Just a thought.

Can 2.5 year olds get hemroids??  I know he had a painful poop experience about 2-3 weeks ago (about how long this has been going on) cuase he was sitting up there and he kept telling me "hurts mommy, hurts, ouch" BUT he's pooped in the potty a few times since then?? He's still peeing just fine and wearing underwear all day long (still in pullups for naps although planning on going to undies for these soon cause he's been waking up dry every day for a week now but definitely needs diapies for night).

ID call the pediatrician, just to be safe...I know my 4 1/2 son is trained and says it hurts but will go then an hour later he'll squeeze like he needs togo again, and its in his undies, pullups so going threw this a long time now Im taking him unfortuantly to a gastrointernilist..i feel so bad for him,b/c he'll hide while playing w/kids and they say WHATS WRONG W/YOU..but the kids around here know hes different.so good luck with your lil guy..I give mine glycolax to soften his poopies, the pediatrician prescribes it..and lots of apple juice.

I'm sure you've thought of this, but could he be constipated?  My older daughter who is NT went through something similar when she was training and it turned out to be that she was constipated.  We eventually had to use a suppository - and we kept books by all the toilets so she would sit on it long enough and relax.

You're very fortunate that he is already potty training this young since he is PDD - hang in there! Also, try lots of liquids and prunes if he'll eat them- maybe try the baby food kind.

yes, they can get hemi's but my son is 4.8 and still not bm trained! so i would think that it is less likely a hemi thing, and more a stim thing that he does not like. this has been a huge battle for us and sometimes keith will let it go with the reward of spraying deoderizer afterward. be really careful tho...
