Hi, I'm new here. My name is Tracy and I have two daughters. The
younger is Molly (age 5) and she has moderate autism/PDD. The
older is age 7 and is very bright and helpful.
My husband and I are looking to relocate from the Chicago area to the
twin cities area. He telecommutes and I am currently a stay-at-home
mom, so commuting is not an issue. We are looking to be near his family
in River Falls, WI and Coon Rapids, MN.
I would like to pick the best school district for autism in the western
WI/greater twin cities area. How can I find that information?
Around where I live, Naperville has an excellent program while my own
-- District 300 Carpentersville/Algonquin/Dundee is pretty dismal.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.
Tracy
Tracy I am not in either of the area you mentioned but from what I have been told Wisconsin is supposed to be one of the BEST places for services because that is where they do most of the trainings.
Each perosn has its own views on best and worst schools because of the luck of the draw with their expertiences and amount of help their child needs.
I would suggest if possible taking a trip to personally check out each school system before making any decisions. Look for special sutism programs in the area and also look into the public schools for the future should your child eventually be mainstreamed.
You could also call the Autism Society of America to see if they have any recommendations, or call realators in the area and ask them for school information for a special needs child.
Good Luck!
*smiles at Michelle* I wonder where you heard that from *laughs*.....
