Testing for Leaky Gut Syndrome | Autism PDD

Share

I've been looking for information tonight on the web and I just joined this group and I have a question. I live in California and I would like to get my 7 year old autistic son tested for leaky gut syndrome. Is a regular GI doctor the place to start? or is there someplace else to start this process. He was diagnosed with Autism when he was three and has made huge progress with behavioral interventions. I'm now interested in starting to look into dietary things. He's developed skin issues; a dermatologist called it psoriasis. It's mainly on the bottom of his feet. But it's not getting better. Dovenex and the steriod creams are making it worse. On a Psoriasis page they mentioned a link between leaky gut and psoriasis. Any thoughts on the skin issue? I'd love any input on where to go and how to start.

thanks,
Ruthie

psoriasis and eczema are sometime caused by food allergies but some times in funs in the family. my moms side of the family has it and i as a mom have it and so does mason. he use noxzema and it works great better than any pres. med. we have tried.

by the way mason has had bowel problems since birth along with severe reflux. we are seeing our gi again on monday to test for leaky gut. will let you know how it goes.

I'm not aware of the connection to psoriasis, but Luke had very bad rashes when he was eating the foods he was allergic to (dairy, yeast, eggs, and soy).  His eczema has completely cleared up since he no longer has those foods.

I don't know for sure, but I think others have written about GI specialists testing their children for leaky gut.  Good luck!
