This is a poem I wrote for my 14 year old autistic daughter.  Although she is nonverbal, I could tell she like it.  When I read it to her she gave me a hug.

My angel is so precious; something hard to find

is a mother-daughter bond like hers and mine

It's not like a "normal" relationship

Sometimes I feel we're joined at the hip

I am her eyes, ears, and her voice

But this "disorder" was not our choice

This "thing" is called autism so they say

We just try to take it day by day

they said with a "disablility" her future is set in stone

but I believe our life is ours to own

It has put up somewhat of a block

for her to read, write, learn, and even talk

Fourteen years, a "cure" we have searched

for I know deep within my angel lurks

And with some blood and sweat there is a chance

for her to one day sing and learn to dance

This dream I have and hold very dear

One day"I love you mommy" from her lips I will hear

One thing of my angel I know is true

whatever the future holds for her we will do

But not one second will we not look for the key

that unlocks this angel God gave to me.

I'm sure she knows how much her mom loves her and tells you in many different ways besides talk that she loves you right back mommy!

big hugs and thanks for sharing hon!

Ali
