2 year old in my class | Autism PDD

responding to my own post.  I've worked successfully with many children with autism, but none so young. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the board, I am sorry that I dont have much to offer. Perhaps you could contact your states autism training center, in my state they will come to you and help (with the parents permission). My son was diagnosed with autism at age 2.

I think just your caring enough to try to find additional resources is a very good sign that you will do all within your power to help this child. I know we have teachers here and some very, very educated and savy parents, I am sure they will have some help to share.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Something else I found I though was very interesting...... http://www.redandgreenchoices.com/links.htm

My suggestion is LISTEN TO THE PARENT(S)!!!!! Validate their feeling and concerns and LISTEN to their ideas feeling and suggestions and help work WITH them instead of against them.

ditto, ditto, ditto on Michelle.

Read the above websites and get some basics so you're not thrown by the behaviors.  Then go with the parents and your gut.  Remember that anything the child does that is bizarre, ie. screaming, stimming behaviors, throwing clay across the room while screaming, etc. serves a purpose--it is functional in that child's world.  What s/he trying to say, avoid, get in, on, off, out of, approach, etc.  Good luck.  Ask questions here too.  I think that's great that you're here.

Please help. I have a 2 year old coming into my Preschool Developmental Delay class.  I have some limited  (!)  knowledge of TEACHH and ABA.  Any help out there?

Thanks,

Pam

As I have been online trying to find possible help for my son as he starts preschool this fall (after a disasterous try last year), I found this link and I wanted to share it with you. It may help you.

Best of luck!
