Camden County College plans to help parents and teachers better understand autism with a pair of free workshops on its Blackwood Campus.
- "Basic Introduction to Autism" at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in the auditorium
of the Danch CIM Center. CCC Professor Jennifer Hoheisel, who has a son
with autistic spectrum disorder and serves on the board of Parents of
Autistic Children Together, will provide an overview of the symptoms
and behaviors commonly exhibited by individuals with autism.
- "Adolescents and Adults with Autism" at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 in Dennis Flyer
Memorial Theatre. Consultant Peter Gerhardt, a past president of the
Organization for Autism Research's Scientific Council, co-founded a
social skills and support service for adults who have high-functioning
autism or Asperger syndrome. He will discuss the challenges involved
when a person with autism transitions into adulthood.
Although
the workshops are free and open to the public, attendees must register
to participate. To register or for additional information, contact the
Division of School & Community Academic Programs by telephone at
