I'm sorry, it used to be calles Katie Beckett - now it's TEFRA...

HIPP- HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUM PROGRAM.

EVERYONE, LOOK INTO THIS. IN VIRGINIA WE HAVE IT, BUT I FOUND IT COMPLETELY BY ACCIDENT. CALL YOUR STATE OR LOOK ON YOUR STATE WEB SITE AND SEARCH FOR IT.

IT REFUNDS TO YOU THE TOTAL INSURANCE PREMIUM THAT IS DEDUCTED FROM YOUR PAYCHECK, BUT ONLY IF YOU QUALIFY FOR MEDICAID.  UNDER THE SSI, MOST OF OUR KIDS WILL QUALIFY FOR MEDICAID. IF YOU HAVE PRIVATE INSURANCE, CHECK IN TO THIS, IT WILL CUT YOU ACHECK EACH MONTH AND SEND YOU THAT MONEY BACK......

hope this helps,

kate

I got SSi for jonathan aat 8 months

How would we know if we qualify for medicaid??  Our Service Coordinator said it was too early to EVEN "think" about getting SSI for AJ.  We have what we have and we are paying for Speech Therapy outta OUR pocket.  However, I am gonna submit that bill to the School District as they have not given my son (in a year) any type of speech therapy.  We hafta start all over, AGAIN, with a "new" IEP.  At least "this" time I KNOW I don't hafta sign it right there then and "now"

I have been going through a LOT this past year...and NOW I hafta FIGHT!  Once your child is evaluated by a PHD with autism knowledge, you will KNOW more of what and how much of therapy your child "needs"  Although I really don't like the psychiatrist they have there at the school, I am still gonna allow her the chance to evaluate AJ first.  IF for some reason or another I don't concur with her findings, then I will go for outside help.  And yes!  The school district will pay for this!!!

It's my understanding that "SSI" is social security and that the Katie Beckett Deeming Waiver (which we applied for in the Spring and still no decision!

Hi..SSI for children with disabilities is based on the parent's income. Here in KY if your child qualifies for SSI he or she automatically gets Medicaid. If, like me, you are ready to return to work...you lose both SSI and Medicaid. They are cutting the waiver programs left and right in KY. Very sad, indeed.

Jacob just got approved for SSI and within a few days I got a letter cancelling his medicaid. I can't get my caseworker to return my calls (I'm not even sure this lady actually exists, I've never spoken to her, only received letters in the mail sometimes). What now? We have private insurance but medicaid was to cover the co-pays. Without medicaid we pay 0 a month in co-pays.

They also cut my food stamps as soon as Jacob was approved. I can't work (ha....I wish. Know any job that will allow you to leave work for an emergency nearly every day???) but I was told the SSI income was for Jacob ONLY. Why the heck did they cut food stamps then? Am I supposed to use Jacob's SSI for food??

I feel so lost in this maze. Oh good Lord! I see I'm not the only one! I've applied for SSI for Katy but is there even a chance that she'll get it since we still don't have a diagnosis? All we have are the reports and evals from all of her doctors and therapists and social workers. I am only able to work part time on account of the fact that I can only work while Katy is in school. Ever had to try to find daycare for a child like ours? It's not easy. I applied for SRS money to pay for it and it looks like I may get it. Now I just have to find an adequate, qualified center for daycare.

eta - Katy has medicaid already.  HugsForKaty38650.5507523148

My sis is going through this is in Calif right now.  We don't qualify for anything, its based on income, so that is a bummer.  But my sis applied for SSI for her son with autism now that the diagnosis is official, and she also applied to be his in home care giver, that also is based on income and your child must be on medi-cal.  So, she will get paid to stay home with him because of his special care requirements.  SHe is divorced and her kids are on medi-cal, so she qualifies for the in home care.
