The power to delete for mods

I always get a message that says "You can not vote in this poll".  For some reason I am locked out of voting in all polls

I don't know why that should be.  I just cleared and reset all your permissions.  Try sigining in and out and see if this has changed things for you :)
I would just hope that the mods (who are entrusted to patrol the forum) are not so petty to delete posts just b/c they don't like them...unless they're offensive I'm not touching them.
ITA.  Personally, I do not believe this board needs to be run with any kind of iron fist!  It's an autism board, and should be a friendly place for people in similar situations to "talk".

Of course some form of moderation needs to be in place to get rid of spammers and the occassional nasty person that just likes to stir trouble, but really ... there isn't too much of that!

I don't see any mod or admin here just deleting a post for the heck of it!

Cam, the issue is now fixed.  Thanks

This question comes up out of the debate as to whether or not it is better to edit a post or delete it.  In earlier discussions FF had emphatically stated that editing and locking is the way to go and that it can be deleted later to avoid alarmist reaction.

Do mods NEED the delete function if they can essentially administratively delete a post through the edit feature?

When you vote please comment as well.

It says I can't vote? i cant vote either and im an admin? whats goin on here camusa? There it goes - I think I should be able to delete troll posts...not member posts.

Understood, but the power to delete a post would allow for both.

Point taken. I guess if I didn't like someone (and I were like that) I could just delete them. I vote yes,   I can't vote still.  i will fix it myself.

You had the power to vote MM.  I don't know why it wasn't working for you, but was working for others.  You are an admin...you can do it all.

PM-I am glad you get what I mean.  So perhaps we need to see what the senior admin (FF) has to say.

ETA: I am going to stay out of the voting and just see what the mods think.

I apologize for not getting here sooner. I missed a portion of today because of an emergency situation with my child at home and I have obviously missed ALOT! Please bare with me as I am stressed from the events that happened in my personal life today with my child and am trying to do the best I can, but obviously my family has to come first.

Apparently we need to have some clear guidelines decided and set up to avoid all the confusion going on here.

I have (as Camusa stated) said it is better to EDIT a post than to delete. And MosesJr_Mommy had stated she agreed. This came about when we had the rapid poster who apparently said something offensive and the post was deleted rather than edited. And then a bunch of topics were closed.

Heres the problem. We should not delete when there are replies beneath the post. Unless it is a spammer and members post GO AWAY type thing. But when someone says something argumenative or offensive and another person replies then the offensive post is deleted everyone get lost. THIS is where we should remove the offensive part of the post and type in EDITED DUE TO OFFENSIVE NATURE or whatever.  Then we also need to edit additional responses beneath it if needed. If the thread becomes a problem it should be locked. It really doesn't take too much time to click EDIT, however the thread can be locked even if temporarly if the person who came across it isn't quite sure what to do and wants to double check with someone else about what to do or if additional time is needed for some reason.

As far as Mods having permission to delete posts. I don't have a problem with that so long as (as stated above) this is done in the right way. Certainly never should posts be deleted simply because we don't like what it says. Nor Should topics be closed simply because we don't like that they were a repeative topic or that someone posted too many things too quickly, or because we disagree personally with what was posted etc. Topics should only be closed when absolutely necessary. None of us all are going to agree 100% of the time Its a message board and no one thing fits all.

So as far as mods deleting posts. The only posts that should be deleted are those of spammers and trolls or things of that nature. However when a post needs deleted, any and ALL of us (admins and mods) should first click REPORT so a copy of the offensive post is made so admins will have the posters information to try to prevent more from the same person in the future. The Ip can be logged and the name and email address shown in case the member needs to be deleted. It makes it very hard when a post from a spammer is deleted but not the username because there are approx 250 pages of members to search through to find and delete spammers.  So we really have to stay on top of it.

Theres my 2 cents worth anyways

I agree for mod to be able to delete, but only when its spam. If its someone saying something offensive, it should just be edited. I also agree that if it has replies it shouldnt be deleted.

Also to add to MM and echoing what FF said-If there have been replies to an offensive post hit "report" first so that there is a record of the offensive post then Edit the post rather than delete it.

OK, this answers my question in a post I made earlier this morning.

I will make it so the mods can delete posts by late morning.
