Hello everyone, I have not been on here for quite some time. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the Son-rise program or Raun Kaufman? Any feedback is appreciated. If you do a search on either words (son-rise or Raun Kaufman), you'll get good info. Good Luck. You might have to search by SonRise or have a space between the two words. There was someone on here for a while who apparently worked for the program. I posted something about it a very long time ago - it was an article that was particularly disturbing to me about the program. It was somewhat biased though. However, any program that charges a fortune is immediately suspect in my book! It doesn't mean that all of them are bad, but red flags go up when the price is that high! http://www.autism-pdd.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=21470&am p;PN=1 interview with Raun kaufman. I also recall some posters who have come and gone over the past year or sowho are "newbies" and their first posts are related the the Son-Rise program. In a least one or two instances they were in fact individuals who work for the organization. As always, it's important to thoroughly research any program that is designed to help our kids......particularly if it involves forking out a lot of money. This is all individual activities with the child. I have the video which they give away free. I do believe this can help out. They do have scholarships also. The price includeds food/room board /training. I was going to go but lacked the other half needed to go. I even had a Aunt to pay the plane fair for me. I do believe the more a Asd person does things at home also the better off for them. I think his mom is the why he is like he is today. I always do the improveing eye contact thing with Daniel all the time. Yes it has helped out a bunch. It's all about the repetition which school used be a 1 time. The more you redo things the better you can get at it. I also believe knowing how your child learns best helps also. Here we do all 3 approaches. Textbook learning isn't for all. Ex. Daniel loves music so he learned his mult/ tables by songs instead of flash cards. Raun now works at the center and can't even carry the ASD LABEL ANYMORE. THIS WAS A SEVERE KID! 30 iq and then to Genus level. The main thing she says in the video is teaching things 1 step at a time until mastery. They had a room build just for sessions.
Search on "sonrise" or "Son Rise." http://www.autism-pdd.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=20919&am p;KW=son+rise I ordered the Son-Rise package when my son was first diagnosed, and I didn't like all the marketing info. I received with it. It was for off-topic books by his father which included some that didn't mesh with our personal beliefs. The son-rise approach itself seemed similar to what we were already doing, which included playing in the room a lot without distractions and engaging him. We preferred Stanley Greenspan's FloorTime approach which is 100% free and any parent can learn to do it. That's how we built a relationship with our son and started having fun with him.Bascially it's all about working with your kid at home. They teach about the gcfc diet. I say don't knock it,it may work for our kids. Like Matty says it's about doing with your child in a environment that has no distractions. Remember textbooks aren't the only way to get a education. Ex. Look at the Montessorie method. Yes this method can work it's a SF diet also, teaches helping with house work. It's all hands on learning method. The books to me look great it's just imfo. that's it. My idea is add video's/computersoftware/audio materials also. They all can help also. Not all of us learning by just books. Books are all now going to cd's anyhow. |
