He has a friend | Autism PDD

I don't know why or how, but he has a friend. My son has said this kid's name was his friend last week. We walked into school today, and the kid runs up and says, "mommy look it's my buddy, (My son's name)". His aide said they were playing together and laughing. I watched him independently walk up and say goodbye and address the kid by name. I'm blown away. I didn't know he had enough to "give" or enough of a response to other kids that they would come back to him.

All of my nephews gave up on him so long ago because he doesn't respond quickly enough for them. I'm very excited about this! He really does love school and gets so excited when I drop him off. It gives me more hope for his future.

That is such awesome news!!!  To me, making a friend is where the rubber hits the road when it comes to social skills.  It's the ultimate proof in my mind that social skills are working.  You should be very hopeful for his future!!!

OH that is just sooooo awesome!!!

Flip,

I had tears reading your post. It's so hard not to worry about our little asd kids socially, and I am so thrilled for your son and the way you must have felt at that very moment.

Korban is so echolalic, that I wonder when he greets certain people if it really is an emotional attatchment, or just routine. I look forward to the first true friend, and I sm so excited for you and your son!

What amazing news!

That is so cute! His first friend! That is such great news! That's so great!  Very encouraging.I am so happy for you.  It is a great feeling.

Flip...that is so great.  This is a worry for me, so hearing this is so wonderful!  A buddy.  A pal.  A chum!

Your son has a friend! Hooray!  I would be doing cartwheels if my old bones could handle it.

this is waaaaaay awesome The friendship is still going strong. They both have to go everywhere together. I watched today and they always sit next to each other, go potty together, and follow each other in the obstacle course. The other mom asked me today some questions her son keeps asking about my son and he still talks about him daily. My son is exchanging affect more than words, but it is a great step. His eye contact is very good with this kid. thats awsome, and only 3 years old!? wow, i dont recall making a true friend until I was at least 6 or so, and my memory usually never fails me. These kids do sooooo much better then I did at an increasingly earler age, your sons future looks quite bright!
