I'm not sure what a 2/3 day program would be, I would ask them for clarification on that if you aren't sure. As far as IEP goals, I always wondered the same thing when my son was that age. I had no idea what I wanted him to do, nor did I have any idea what he should be doing at that age. If ABA is working for him, then that should definitely be included. Could his ABA therapist give you some ideas as far as goals? We didn't do ABA so I can't really give you anything on that. My son was non-verbal so we did speech and OT, we did PECS and alot of his goals (if I can remember that far back

My son didn't have a diagnosis at that age and he was very verbal, so I'm not going to be able to help as far as goals.

However, I'm going to recommend that you call ARC or PACER or some kind of local organization and see if you can get an advocate to go with you to the meeting. Basically, someone who is more familiar with the school system and what is available for your son.

I HATED when they did that to me at our first IEP meeting. They asked me what I wanted for my son. My reply was that this was so overwhelming (at the time) and that I didn't even know what was available, so how could I know what to even ask for? Keep in mind I'm a former social worker who knows a lot about the system (but didn't know a lot about autism at the time - I got a crash course pretty quickly!). I kept thinking about people who didn't even have my advocacy skills and what they must be going through! The school kept giving me vague answers like, "Well it depends on the child's needs. What do YOU think he needs?" I know better now - and for them to have to spell out what his needs are and how they plan to address it first. I don't EVER talk first anymore - I try to find out what THEY are planning, then investigate it and go from there.

Anyway, I think it might be helpful for people to hear a little bit more about your son and what symptons he is exhibiting. Thiings his ABA therapist is working on with him, for instance. IEP goals are so different for each child - and each child with autism is so different. So, it would help to know a little bit more about your son.

If your child will continue getting ABA, you might want generalizing the ABA skills on the IEP, or you might want the IEP to focus on another area of need, such as classroom and social skills.  It's hard to say without knowing details about the child and the placement.

I have read many posts and have learned so much just from reading the experiences you have all had with the school system.

My little boy has medical issues and has PDD-NOS.  He will be turning 3 the end of November and after two observations, the school is offering a 2/3 day program for him.  I am not sure exactly,what that means since in the note I got from the school contact did not elaborate.  So the school wants me to get back to them regarding that.  I do want him in school because he has been home for almost three needs and needs to be apart of a social group.  When I reply to the school what should I ask?  Do any of your kids have this kind of program?

Help, what should I ask for? What do you have in your IEP for your kids?  I know each child is different, but I need direction in what to have in his IEP.  He does get ABA and it really has helped him in so many ways so I do know that we want that to continue as well as his speech, ot, pt.  Our first meeting at the school (think it is the IEP meeting) is in two weeks.
