I just started and am using vanilla flavored rice milk with squirt strawberry quick. Taste like a watered down shake.
Also calcium fortified OJ
We love almond milk better than the rice one. I am new to it too. I ordered the CD video on GFCF diet. I am not sure if srawberry quick is ok but i am using it in the meantime. Almond milk sounds good!Do any of you use Rice Milk for the GFCF diet? Also, too much juice stirs up the yeast, which is a problem with most autistic children. I would limit the amount of juice drinks you give. We mix one cup of juice into a half gallon jug. (some do that in a gallon jug, if necesary) Then I add stevia to taste. You can get stevia at the HFS. It is an herb that is sweeter than sugar so you only need about 5 tsp for 1/2 gallon of liquid to sweeten it up.
Cutting back on the juice might help them drink more of the rice mik, then and give them some calcium that way.
Jaden gets 4 tsp of calcium a day but she has always tested low on it. So she gets more than usual. I think for toddlers--they need 600--1000 mg daily, total.
Children with autism are deficient in the enzymes that break down gluten.
Anyway phenols are high in apple/apple juice, oranges, cocoa, red grapes, bananas When the enzyme is deficient foods that are higher in phenols are not tolerated well.
S/S
Disrupted sleep
Regressive Behavior
Headaches~ head banging
High consumption of apple juice
Anger
Periodic red ears/ cheeks
Night sweats
I got this from, the kid friendly ADHD & autism cookbook~ it has been very helpful to me
My son had these symptoms with apples, but not orange juice I cut out the apple juice
I buy rice dreams, the enriched kind. But be careful and read the lable some are not GF.
I also give orange juice, you can buy that enriched with vit a,d, & calcium. I go half juice half water, and sometimes full strength.
We do not do apples, or apple juice because of the phenols
Hi
I too am new to the gf/cf diet (my little one has been on it only a week now) and she has been drinking 1/2 water and 1/2 apple juice in her cup all day long as she has refused all milk substitues. My question is what is the problem with apple juice again and what do you give your kids to drink as she won't drink orange juice either
You can give him a liquid calcium supplement. Here is the one we use:

Bon Bon I really appricate it! I'm just trying this diet out...I have a way to go before we are 100 percent on it as I'm still trying to find products and ways to cook.Bon Bon- How do I know how much calcuim to give him? I'm trying to find a pediatric nutritionist to help us with all this stuff. I'm scared I'll give him too much and he'll get sick, ya know.My dd does not drink any milk substitute, she only drinks water and diluted juice. She is gfcf but not on the spectrum.
My ds drinks rice milk- protein and calcium enriched.
At this age, they need about 600mg calcium per day.
I use Ca/Mg powder which also has some vit D in it. Calcium is better absorbed if vit D is present. This can be in the supplement or in the form of sunshine.

here's a link to the rice dreams site, they are all gluten free, it says so in the product info.
I understand I am new to this also we have started our 3rd week GF/CF. Still making mistakes and learning along the way.
THe book will be a BIG help
Your the best! I just figured that out at the store. The store I go to was selling the old stuff that still contained Gluten. Nuts. I have the right stuff now though.
