For the first almost 3 weeks of school things were great!!!,now Im back to reality,This is a real "TOLD YOU SO"moment. But I cant take any pleasure from this

Now he is starting to refuse to do his work, his stimming is out of control at home and he has had two Meltdowns at school,at the last meeting he was still doing fine, now I get his SEP and there is nothing about behaviour ,no provisions ,no accomodations ,Nothing.

All it says is he needs a TA to help him focus in LA,and something like this (MATH) ,(strategy type)Human resources Assistance,(strategy)TA .

(English) ,same as above.

That is it ,Of course I cant sign this,I think things are going to get alot worse Fast!!,What do you all think.

Linda

beccaposie39375.1644097222I would not sign until they do a functional behavior plan for him. I am kinda in the same boat, we had a good 4 weeks and now in the past three I have had 3 IEP meetings. I have been lucky though, the Autism person at School has started a sensory diet for my son and has done a functional behavior plan, it is all being implemented this week. Next meeting is Nov. 15, unless we go down hill further before this date. I don't see how things will get better or change for your son if the IEP stays the way it is now. I warned my sons School too, (about the honeymoon period my son goes through) every year, lets just wait and see what happens. Now they see what happens. I do feel lucky that my sons new School is taking a great approach on fixing some things that should have been dealt with before.   I spent the day at my son's school yesterday and was pretty disheartend
myself. I'd say about 90% of his IEP is not implemented and it is so
discouraging seeing my little guy behaving so badly when I know that it
could go much better. I will just try and make sure that I take all the right
steps because I could see the school just claiming that he is inappropriate
for mainstream when in fact he does fine with accommodations, which
they are not providing.
Linda, I have a friend whose son had a rough year in K ad the school
provided nothing and half through the year told her that he was
inappropriate for mainstream. She had to hire an attorney and he is now
in 2nd grade and does well with accommodations even without an aide.
Make sure you document what you believe yor ds needs and why. keep
good records.Dont sign it yet. And please dont give up/ get down. My ds is having a much better time in school, behaving in ways I never thought possible 2 months ago! It really can happen.... I almsot quit believing. Do you have a advocate or any autism group that can help you or go to a meeting with you? Hang in thier and I hope it starts getting better. Take care

They take there time doing up the things, they can wait to get it signed!!Thanks for all your great advice .

Linda

Sigh that is so not an IEP!!  This is the point that I would fill in all the blanks, and send it back, oh and if you can scan it and send a copy to the principal that is good too.  Make sure you keep a copy of that thing they are calling an IEP, you may need it for reference in the future.

If you still do not get joy then contact the Student Services office.  That is what we have here.  They are the Special needs office form the school district.

I have been known to cc the world on my emails.  Including the head of student services.  Things certainly get moving if they see that on an email.

Were kinda going thru the same thing. Hayden was fine (besides a few bumps here and there) for the month and half or so hes been in school but hes been very uncooperative and hard to manage at school and at home. It does come and go and its not constant but its still there. He goes to a private preschool so im worried what will happen if he keeps acting out.

Maybe you could call a meeting and discuss all thats been going on lately?

ETA: Ooops, Sorry just read your comment above.

Sorry to hear the "honeymoon" is over.  This happened with my youngest son to a certain extent.  At first the preschool was exciting because of all the new toys, but after awhile, he stopped wanting to go there because it was overwhelming for his senses and for him socially.

It's great that the principal took initiative to the meeting and gives a positive vibe.  Wishing you luck.

Well, when I went to drop Zach off yesterday after his Dr's appointment ,the Principal meet me at the door ,She said she had heard we were not happy with the SEP and was setting up a meeting ASAP with the school Board to discuss our Concerns.

Wow I knew I chose this school for a reason

I will Let you all know how it goes,

Linda

That is good Hope your meeting goes well..  I wouldn't sign it either, they have no plan of action no goals...wth is that?

We went to a Behavioral plan for my son Gabe last year and it really helped a lot. The teacher wasn't too pleased that she had to give him a reward every time they transitioned from one thing to another but it worked!

They need to do better for your son.
