More fits

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

J is starting to not want to come to my house in the mornings.

Nothing has changed-- he just simply has a fit when it's time to come.  Today, I heard him crying and screaming and he was outside in the yard-- I heard him while I was inside, doors shut, windows shut!

I really feel this is related to the autism, even though there's no dx yet.

Did any of your kids do this?  Why do you think he's doing it so much all of a sudden?

I do the same thing as I always have, so I know it's not a routine change that's upsetting him.  And I don't punish him for anything really, so I know he's not scared of me.  So, what's going on with this?????

 could have problems transitioning

Wouldn't he have been doing the fits all along though?

Who knows whats going on in his body/mind. My son does this. Most of the time he never questions the bus. Then--out of the blue---he will refuse to ride it that day. What a battle that is! I see it--if there wasn't a cause--as seperation anxiety. For some reason---they just don't want to leave their mom or environment.

It has nothing to do with you. It's the child and whatever is going thru their mind that certain day.

With my youngest son, who has social delays and may end up with an autism diagnosis, he has gone through periods of trouble transitioning to daycare.  They tended to last a couple weeks, and were possibly triggered by feeling under the weather.  He'd cry and hit himself in the head, rather than scream.

My oldest son, who does have an autism diagnosis, had trouble transitioning to preschool, too, mostly when the weather got colder and they had to be indoors more -- which was overwhelming for his senses.  He loved to draw, so I'd have him draw a picture before preschool, and he'd be excited to go in and show it to the teacher.

Good luck.  Hopefully it's just a phase.

Thanks!  I'll keep you all updated.  Hopefully he'll get better soon.ITA with everyone.  My guy really seems to like school, and most of the time goes off happily.  But every once in a while he gets in a mood that he just does not want to go, doesn't want to leave me.
