Okay, so I have been avoiding potty training Korban, who was 2 in May and asd. Any advice? He has been so obsessive about using the potty and so we started training yesterday afternoon. He's doing great, only one accident so far, and he cried even though I assured him that it wasn't a big deal, we would just try again next time. He cried because of the feeling - he has extreme sensory issues.
So, any advice/personal experiencce training an asd kid would be helpful...Do you think it is a bad idea to attempt this so soon?
Thanks for your help, I will keep you posted!

So obsessive about using the potty? and only 2. I wish that was the case with my dd. She is 3 and a half and never goes near the potty. Regardless if your ds has ASD or not it sounds like he is on the right potty path. Abby has sensory issues but hers are opposite it the sensation of a really wet diaper or poo does not phase her. It sounds like your sons sensory issues are actually gonna be a postive one when it comes to potty training.
Sounds like a great start! If he doesn't normally go a few days without pooping, I'd be a little extra careful since withholding is a common problem for kids with autism. A large, hard, and/or painful bowel movement can lead to more withholding, and it becomes a vicious circle and difficult habit to break.
Here's my collection of potty resources, including some articles on sensory issues, etc.

Good luck with everything!
Day 3: Still doing pretty well. I have been filling the poor kid full of liquid and setting the "potty timer" for every 10 minutes. We have had about 1 accident daily, and it was just a little dribble today, before he frantically ran to the bathroom and screamed "need go pee!!!" Which I consider the recognition a HUGE success. I am worried about pooping, though. He hasn't since Monday night when we started, so he will be rewarded greatly when he does, and he knows it!
