Need Help for GF/CF little one | Autism PDD

Share

My youngest girl has been on the diet for 3 days now (she is 2 1/2). My problem is that she was already limited to what she would/could eat in that for a long time she was on baby food as she never could really swallow regular food

She has a  speach therapist who has been working with her on eating also and she had made some strides in that she was eating the following before going on the diet:

Poptarts, Mac and Cheese, Weiners, Honeybuns, hashbrowns, some mexican food like burritos with rice and beans, mashed potatoes, some veggies like carrots, peas, green beans, fettuchine.

Well the trouble come when I took all the BAD foods away as she won't eat the ones that are left or even the gf/cf counterparts that I have replaced them with

Any advice or thoughts would be a big help

It took us a good 3 mos to go completely gfcf because we did it so gradually.

The only trouble is that she really isn't eating much else except the baby food now. She ate mashed potatoes and green beans for 1DAY only and then that was it. I have tried rice and gravy, scrambled eggs, sweet potatoes mashed, creamed corn, carrots, meat ect and she won't eat anything so I go back to giving the baby food rather than her old foods that she can no longer have. I'm just worried that this way will continue and she will no longer eat anything but baby food

FYI: Some parents just do enzymes(capsules) instead of total elimination of GFCF foods...Kirkman supplements has some online & now some healthfood stores carry them..we would give Sarah 2 capsules mixed with something sweet 30 minutes before a special meal like pizza and she did fine..some parents do this exclusively and still get great results...Good luck!

Thats the first I've heard about enzyme capsules (I'm new to all this though). Just wondering what would be the purpose of putting them on the diet in the first place and why doesn't everyone just do the capsules???((HUGS))

The digestive enzymes that break down wheat and dairy protiens is called DPPIV.  The concern about using it as a replacement for gfcf is that the enzyme may not be able to catch and break down every single wheat and dairy protien that is floating around in the gut.  That means that there is still a chance that they can pass from the gut into the bloodstream.  Now in your case, if the gfcf diet is very difficult to implement, doing the enzyme might be a better option because it would be easy to mix it into the baby food.

Both my kids have bene gfcf for about 2 yrs and I am using the digestive enzymes (just started w/in the past 6 mos) for infractions.  That includes when we go out for pizza.  I have not seen any regressions w/ my kids when they take the enzymes, but I do believe that their leaky guts are pretty healed because we did the gfcf diets.

Regardless if you do the diet, digestive enzymes are necessary to break down foods so that our kids body can absorb the nutrients.  If you have leaky gut, thre is a good probablility that the body isn'  producing enough of or the right kinds of enzymes to break down the foods completely.

I will be so glad when we finally get to see the DAN doctor but that won't be until April. I know that will probably explain all this stuff to me but I was just trying to do all I can in the meantime help out.
