My son's speech goals are adjusted to say "James will have 3 exchanges with a peer in a 10 minute time, on 3 different occasions." We added " turning to face 75% of his body and maintaing eye contact."
You might suggest that your son "make X social attempts or conversational attempts in a 10 minute period or extrapilate to 1 hour, on X amount of occasions." You would first want to take some anon data on typical peers to see what the average was for them to then measure your son's and try to bring it up to typical or appropriate levels? You could then tweek for duration or to increase during desired period of time (lunch, transitions.)
I have the following links saved in my favorites for IEP goals. I hope they help!

Hello Everyone,
First, I have a question--at a recent BIP meeting, we were told by the Principal that our sons BIP/FBA is NOT part of his IEP. Is this true, or am I just confused. I thought that the BIP/FBA was indeed a integrated part of his IEP. I stated that at the meeting, and the Principal denied this to the point where we had to "agree to disagree".
Next, I was wondering if there may be an older post around that might have suggested goals for IEP's? I tried a search, but didn't see anything.
My son's IEP will be reviewed soon, and I was looking for some ideas. His current IEP has mostly Academic goals, with a small section on behavior/social goals. He also has a BIP/FBA that is current (recently completely redone)...
Luke does very well Academically, so we want the IEP to reflect more behavior/social goals vs academic.
If anyone has any thoughts/ideas/links about behavior/social goas that would be awesome!
Thanks so much for your time and input!
Kelly
I get the impression that it varies from state to state whether the BIP is considered part of the IEP.
Hopefully someone with more expertise will see your BIP question.
Good luck with everything.
