Sooo excited! | Autism PDD

Zach is pretty mildly affected so I don't think he needs anywhere near 30-40 hours.  Plus, I have another child with PDD-NOS and another who might be on the spectrum so I need to learn how to do a lot of this myself as we, realistically cannot have an ABA program in our home that often.

Plus, he is motivated to learn when engaged so motivation isn't an issue.    It is just getting his solo play and language improved.  I think those are going to be his area of focus.   And, yes, the concept is for me to continue on the therapy but in a fuctional way in natural environments.  (ie:  incorporating it into our errands, bathtime, etc.)

I found this page that explains it:

HTH.  I'm really excited!  I think it is a good fit for us!

kdchaos39370.6871296296It is wonderful that you were able to line up the services that you feel are
best for your kids and family. What is PRT ? Is it a playtherapy? If they
come for 4 hours a week how much do they recommend you do on your
own? It seems so many therapies recommend that you do 30-40 hours a
week total and that seems so daunting. I also have three kids and really
the logistics of how to arrange sstuff with two kids who are not schoolage
is what causes me most headaches.
Anyway - I am so glad that it worked out the way you hoped !My youngest is eligible for ABA, but I really don't think it is the right fit for my kids so I've been asking my coordinator what else is out there..  Well, we just found out that we can get him in PRT which is a little more in line with what I was hoping to get.  He starts next week.  I guess they come out 2 times a week for 2 hours each visit.  Then they teach me how to work with him.  He also has his 1 hour speech and then his 2 1/2 hours per week of OT/speech playgroup (w/other kids who have SN).

I am really happy with what his services will be!
