My sons behavior on GFCFGFCF diet does have a period of time where the child actually gets worse before getting better because all the 'natrual morphine' that is created from the incompletley digested dairy and wheat protien that enters the bloodstream through the leaky gut is leaving the body. It takes about a week for the dairy protien to exit the body and it takes a good 4-6 weeks for wheat protien to exit the body. You might also double check the foods that he is consuming is gfcf and that he is not eating any offending foods at school. Even some of the school products, such as glue or playdoo will have wheat protien. If the child doesn't wash his hands completely and puts his hands in his mouth, he will be exposed to the protien. Something else you might want to look into is if he has yeast overgrowth or might have some bad bacteria. You might also see if he has intolerances to other foods. Many times those intolerances are not noticable because the symptoms are masked by the natrual morphine like substance created by the undigested wheat or dairy protien. Common foods are where kids have intolerances are soy and corn. I would like to know what form and where can you get this charcoal? Thanks, Alice, mom to Gabe,15, gfcf 2 weeks. You could try activated charcoal. If you google it, you will see that it has been used throughout history to help the body get rid of toxins. I use it mostly when my kids go through yeast die off, but it could work w/ gfcf withdrawls.
This does make sense, thanks, but how do you deal with it? My son is having meltdowns every night! It's all we can do to get through the night. Is it like DTs? Because if so there's nothing I can do for him, but hold him and comfort him as much as possible. Any info or tricks would be much appreciated. |
