Chewable vitamins?? | Autism PDD

Do any of you use regular one a day chewables for your kids???  Are they bad for kids with autism??  any info would be great thanksIf you want a good all natural chewable vitamin you can get kangavites. You can usually find them at your local HFS or at vitamin shoppe.

Andrew doesn't like chewables.  I tried hiding them in cereal a few years ago, but he'd eat everything but the vitamin.

He takes a powdered vitamin mineral supplement based on his weight as we are on a DAN! protocol now.  But I think a one-a-day chewable is a good idea if your child will take one.

We do a Chewable Vitamin C every day.  We call it "Tigger Medicine."  He has no problem taking one as long as he can feed one to Daddy as well

Just about everytime I give my kids vitamins, I ask them how many they can take (1), how many they can take when I'm not looking (0) and what happens if they take too many (they get sick).  No problems so far, but I wanted to avoid the Gummy Bear vitamins because they look a little more like candy than the regular chewables.

Liam loves the Flintstone jr chewables.  The only issue is they make him constipated.  I think it is the iron in them. I've started regular chewables yesterday so we'll see how they do with them.   I was a little worried about starting them as my kids already think medicine is like candy.  What ever happened to the terrible tasting medicine we had as kids????
Gummy-Vites are great. 2 "gummy bears" per day! We get them at Walgreens.
Gummy-vites FTW!

We use chewable vitamins.  We often buy Walgreens brand with dinosaur shape when we're in the US.  They probably have artificial colors, flavors and sweeteners, but artificial ingredients don't seem to be a problem for our kids in any food products.

The only downside I see is that remnants of the vitamins get stuck in my oldest son's molars.  He has extra deep grooves in his molars, and may have some oral motor issues that contribute to a general problem of food remnants in his mouth after a meal.  Vitamins, shredded wheat cereal, and cheetos are the worst.

My boys will not eat anything like chewable viatmins, they don't eat any kind of candy or gummie bears so I have had a hard time finding a way to give them vitamins. I elected for a liquid one that has a lot of minerals and immune system building things in it. I put it in their juice, they don't have a clue. Their diet is so bad I worry they aren't getting enough nutrients.

kristys -- just keep in mind, the gummies have no minerals ... I was kind of surprised there are not cautions to that effect on them.

But then we are vegetarian so we need the minerals a bit more than others might!

foxl - thanks.   My kids are really good eaters so I don't really worry too much.  The vitamins are a habit we got into when the kids were really little and now they're just used to them.  We probably don't really need vitamins.  I feel fortunate that I've been spared the food/gut/poop issues that many others are dealing with.
