How fast did you notice a change? | Autism PDD

Hi and welcome!  This board has a section called Autism Diets which you may want to scan through.  You might find some helpful info in some of the past threads.  Recently there was a thread about GF/CF foods you can buy in a regular grocery store which was interresting.  Here's the link:

Thankyou, so much!

I noticed changes with the diet within a few days. My son had better eye contact and was a lot less hyper. He was able to focus more. Also since being on the diet, my son doesnt throw up anymore. He used to throw up quite a bit for awhile. He does not have a really wide selection of foods. Mainly he eats fritos, rice cakes, potato chips, sandwich meat, ground beef, chicken, rice, envirokids (gluten free) cereal an cereal bars, bananas, etc.. Also, I use either Pacific Rice Milk or Rice Dream rice milk but with the rice dream you have to check the label and make sure that it does not contain any gluten. Hope that helps some. Good luck!

jen78fl39369.5218981481I would not opt for soy milk it's just about as hard on the system and has been hydrolized (sp?) whch is not good for someone.  The most natural milk to human's is goat milk.

I have been eliminating alot of "bad" food from my sons diet. We are switching him to the GF/CF diet.

Poor guy has lots of diarrhea, like 4 to 5 diapers a day, and a bloated belly.

Yesterday he had 2 diarhea's

I was just wondering for those of you who did the diet change how soon you started to see improvement/change, and what changes you noticed?

Also is rice milk ok? Can you do soy milk? Is it ok to put chocholate syrup in it?

What are some of your childs favorite GF foods?

I feel a little overwhelmed by all the info, and the foods are so expensive. I was hoping for some good ideas as to what other kids like, so I could maybe try those first.

Thanks, Angela

Welcome to the board Angela!

I didn't completely do the gf/cf diet with my son. I think if I remember correctly that I got a gf/cf brand of chocolate syrup for him at a natural/health food store in my area called Trader Joes. Sorry I can't remember.

I'm not much help with the diet. I just wanted to welcome you to the board. If you go to www.tacanow.com there is a whole section there that is dedicated to the gfcf diet. They even have a long list of things you can buy and where to buy them. It has helped us so much.

I am so glad to hear that someone recommends doing cf first, because that is exactly what I have been trying for the last 2 wks. So far, not sure if it is doing anything, although he does seem to have more energy. He never had any stomach issues to begin with, so it's hard to tell.

I do notice, though, that I am feeling a lot of anxiety myself. I don't know if it's because I'm eating the same stuff and it's affecting me, or if I'm just more stressed out because I'm trying to figure out all the time what is okay for him to eat.

I will have to try goat milk because he doesn't want to drink rice or soy milk, and I'm starting to worry about his calcium.

I have read that goats milk has casen in it. We buy almond milk which you should be able to find at the grocery store. It comes in regular, vanilla and chocolate.

In your post you mentioned lots of diarhea, that sure sounds like a stomach problem to me which means he would probably respond well to the diet.

If you are worried about calcium you can get a chewable calcium vitamin. I don't know if you have yet but you should start your son on a good multi vitamin before doing the gfcf diet.

I've read that Rice Milk is good, but not the "Silk" Brand.

I would recommend changing to the CFGF diet slowly.  I have often read to start with the CF part first.  I am doing that now with Andrew.

Our little guy's stomachs get so irritated, a quick drastic change may be a shock to the system...

Blessings and good luck...

with that much diarrhea going on

have you considered that it might be caused by a bug and not diet.

One treatment to consider is Olive Leaf extract
we add a little ( liquid OLE ) to grape juice
along with some vitamin C powder
