Yes, she was on the keto diet for 6 months for seizures. She never really got constipated, so we didn't use the Mirolax much. She eats EVERYTHING though. ANything she can get her hands on. But, she's getting better.

Hi all-

My 28 month old DD Jessi has been having almost constant diarrhea and/or very mushy poop for over 2 months. She's been to the doctor who checked stool samples and they can't find anything wrong. She had these loose stools at 8 am, 1pm, 4:30pm, 5:30pm, and 6:15pm today. I don't know what to do with her.

We've tried holding certain foods, but it hasn't made a difference. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Sarah

My DS had that about the same age.  The doc also did lots stool testing but nothing!  This continued on for quite some time.  It was very upsetting.  So as a last resort we changed his milk to lactose free and viola the end of poopy pants!  He continued to eat regular cheese, yogurt etc.

After a year or more on the lactose milk we weaned him off and now can tolerate regular milk.

It's worth a try!  Good luck and keep us posted!

My son also had that poopy problem.  I just loved it when it came out his pants and up the back of his shirt. I talked to tons of parents who's ASD kids had the same problem, we just called it toxic autistic poop.  When I found the company that had the non toxic products and I got them in my home, his poop started getting better.  They also have a dietary supplement for the gi track that I give him and now it is formed and lost that toxic poop smell.    We have military insurance and it is a pain to get referral to specialists so I thought I would try that our before fighting with inconsiderate evil insurance people.Definately see a GI doc.  Your child could have the "leaky gut" or be just like my dd would has allergies and/or intolerances to certain foods that would cause the loose stools, such as wheat protien (gluten), milk protien (casien), yeast, corn, soy, etc.  Is there anything new that you introduced into your child's diet or something your child consumes a lot of over the past couple months since the loose stools began?  Has your child been taking any antibiotics?

Jessi's doc told me to try Pepto Bismol for 2 days and let him know if that does anything. If it doesn't, then we'll discuss what to try next.  He can be SO frustrating!

That's what I was wondering about, leaky gut. I'm not sure if that's what it is, but I just had a nagging suspicion.Again i would suggest maybe going to see a gi doc.mom2carloLuke always used to be constipated.  Then he had nice formed poopies for about 4 mos.  Now, ever since we removed the foods he tested allergic to from his diet, he has VERY mushy poop and lots of it!!  Kind of like a 'blow out' everytime he goes poopy (which is maybe every couple of days).  I wondered if maybe now that the allergenic foods are out of his diet, perhaps it was hiding a leaky gut??  I've fired his previous MD and am considering taking him to a DAN doctor.  Am I going off the deep end here??  hey sarah, what kind of doc did she see? she needs to see a gi doc who specializies in that sort of thing. I just took Carlo to see one  about 3wks. ago. he has leaky gut. no form stools always kinda mushy. he'll go about every couple of days, then on those days he goes 6 or 7 times in one day. talk to your peds about a gi app. hope this helps.mom2carlo

keith always had mushy poop, but i just thought it was his system. he has had his tonsils and adenoids out, a sleep survey, has sleep apnea, snores like a drunken sailor (no offense navy) and used to walk & talk in his sleep........ he has a neuro. appt in 2 weeks, anything i should ask for a referal for?

It could until her bowels learn to work properly. So if doc says to use that.Be prepared for what we like to call blowouts. But as time goes by they should learn to work right without so much help. What was she on the keto diet for?seizures? take care and keep us posted.mom2carlohey jessimom,I'm surprise they told you peto cause our peds won't allow us to give it to Carlo and we were just recently able to start giving it to our 12 yr.old.If it continues and still bothers both of you. I would insist on seeing a gi doc. they put Carlo on miralax to help the leaky gut, when we go back in nov. I'm gonna ask if it could be from allergies to certain food, since his cystic fibrosis and celiac diease tests were both negative. hope jessi feels better soon. hugs to you both.mom2carlo

Thanks guys. We have a HUGE bottle of Mirolax powder as Jessi had to be on that while she was on the keto diet. I thought that relieved constipation, wouldn't that make her worse?

Sarah

If it continues much longer, you may very well ask for a referral to see a GI.  There is a risk of dehydration if it continues for too long.  I've heard many kids with Autism also have gastro problems as well, when I did a search, this (old) article came up...but it does mention chronic diarrhea as an issue due to malabsorbtion of carbs.

Nope, nothing new to the diet. I just would love to know if the ped expects us to give her pepto bismol 4 times a day forever. It seemed to help her first stool today, it wasn't hard, but it wasn't diarrhea. It was darker and didnt' seem to stink as badly.

I don't know what her deal is.

Today and yesterday WERE NOT good days. LOTS of bodyslamming herself, and today she figured out how to head butt others when she's having a meltdown. GREAT. She screamed constant for about 35 mintues today, and nothing helped. I don't even remember why it started.
