Reactions when starting gfcf diet? | Autism PDD

Share

My son started the gfcf diet 9 days ago.  7 days after starting, he got a high fever - 102.5 and was very grumpy.  He also has been constipated - though I'm wondering if this is due to calcium supplements which I'm stopping for the time being.  He did well with the diet at first - eye contact was better, more social, less stimming.  Since the fever, he's been grumpy and regressed back to before the diet.  He might be like this due to the constipation, but I'm just wondering what other people experienced after starting the diet.  Is the fever normal?  Do they sometimes get better and get worse?  He also looks very pale.  Should I stick with the diet or do these things mean that it isn't working?  We see a DAN doctor on November 1st (Dr. DeJonge in Grand Rapids Michigan - has anyone seen him?).  Any advice is appreciated.  I'm trying to do the best for my son, but I'm worried about this reaction.

The diet didn't give us that reaction. Calcium (too high a dose) alone usually causes diareah, not constipation. Is it mixed with Magnesium?

Can you take him in and have his ears and throat checked?

Coincidence?

Praying he is well soon!

Your son may have picked up a bug that coinceded with the change in diet.

We have had positive reactions with the diet though in the very first days there was a bit of regression in some of the characteristics for example stimming increased a bit and there were some meltdowns.

Hope he gets well soon
