Parker sure has been tantruming today! We are trying to ignore them and it's making them worse before they get better. He has this habit of saying things over and over when he wants something or doesn't get what he wants. Today he wanted to look at videos on the computer and he couldn't. He looked at them but then it was time to get back to work with his aba theripists. He said movies over and over. We told him of course that he had to work and so on. Then we ignored what he said about movies and praised him for being good or talking about something else. I think he is getting that we arn't going to give in and it's making him mad. He had about 4 tantrums today. He is also getting a runny nose so that makes it worse I think. Boy, today was a rough day. How was everyone else's kids days?
Yesterday was surprisingly calm. I expected him to try to get into the neighbor's car but he came in side without a fight. He did look at it and think about it for a split second. It does get worse before it gets better. The BCBA that did my son evaluation said when you are trying to change a behavior the worse the tantrum the better your chances are of success in changing that behavior.
My ds supposedly had a GREAT day at school yesterday - but you wouldn't have known it when he got home!
It will get worse before it gets better - he's just going to try to push more and more buttons to get what he wants. It WILL get better - just keep telling yourself that!
Sorry it was so rough yesterday. Hope it goes better today!!
