The other day my son was outside playing with me and all of a sudden started screaming , hitting, and biting me. I took him inside and my husband held him for a little while. he tightened all his muscles and was growling at him. Then he calmed right down blinked and asked my husband, "where am i". Then he was his normal happy self. Has this ever happened with your kids ? What happened?
Can you give us more details? After he asked where he was did you ask him if he remembered what had just happened. Did he say anything else? Is it common for him to get agressive with things like sensory issues, or just getting upset? Or was this agression completely new?
When my son was having his eeg the tech was telling my stories of people with a type of seziure disorder who would do things and not remember afterwards. One woman she was telling me about would undress where ever she was and not remember. The eeg tech told me she once did it in a grocery store. They thought she has some sort of mental disorder until the found the seziures on the eeg. I wish I could remember what she called them. She did say they were some of the hardest seziures to detect.Or Tourette's. Bring a videocam with you if you can and try to get episodes like this on tape. Then you can show them to a psychiatrist or neurologist. My guess is that this is some form of "brain fireworks" that is not at all psychological but is neurobiological, which means you needs a physician and possibly meds (once the source is discovered). Keep us posted. Thanks for your replys. To answer some questions. Yes he has been aggresive before many times but it has never gone away so quickly , he just didn't seem to know where he was and that has never happened before. We didn't ask him what happened, we didn't want to upset him again. If this happens again though I will ask if he knows what happened.
We are having something VERY similar in my house !!! Not that I am happy you are in the same boat as me.....just nice to have someone who understands !
It started with the doorbell ( some of you may remember I posted here looking for help )She FLIPS out....starts to bang her head, hit herself, muscles are all tense and rigid. Tries to bite me or twist my hands.....It has gotten more frequent in number, though it is now easier for me to calm her and get her out of it ( and in some cases I have stopped it before it started)
We have gotten rid of our doorbell, but the same reaction happens to crying babies, car alarms or horns, some cell phone rings, and the ice cream man music
She had the first "episode" at school last week....I had warned the teacher and advised her on how to handle it if it should occur....but it took 15 minutes to calm her and she called me because she was afraid Erin would hurt herself.
The teacher called it a tantrum....but that name doesn't feel right to me. Erin isn't doing it as a means to an end....it is more like she is startled and scared and this is the reaction. She has little control over it and needs help to get over it.
Erin is currently on Risperdal due to SIB's.....this had just started prior to the Risperdal and like I said, seem more frequent,....I am going to inquire with her doctor about it.
Forgot to add.....could be that something set your son off like my daughter. It took me a while to figure out that it was the doorbell because she had a bit of a "delayed reaction" to it.
When I pressed the teacher to see what the trigger in the classroom might have been....she remembered a child was crying about something.
I think the spelling might be pseudo seizures, since I didn't find anything with the spelling psydo. Here's some info on them:

Well I kind of thought maybe seizure related the first time I read it too...I've seen Mason have a few small episodes like this a long time ago...although at the time I didn't realize it could have been seizure related.
But thought I would check if he does get agressive for other reasons...it could be so many different things including sensory. But the thing that strikes me so much is that he didn't realize where he was.
If you do have a video camera, I agree with what Tzoya said and try to catch it on tape...if not start logging all the details...especially if you notice any sort of staring spells happening too...if you do, get in touch with a pediatric neuro.
Good luck and keep us posted on what happens.
There is a type of epilepsy they use to call psydo seizures. That is what you have described to me. it could be a sensory thing. You could of evaded his personal space. Outside can be overwhelming for a child with sensory issues. (sounds, wind , grass, sand, sun light)
