Hi. My son is 3 1/2 with overall developmental delay. He still does not speak. I wanted to put him on a vegan gluten free diet. The porblem I am facing is that we are vegetarians. I have been trying to find foods in this area but am having a difficult time finding varity of foods. Can anyone suggest where I can look.
I think your best bet is doing an online search _ personally I like the recipes on this website http://vegweb.com/index.php?action=recipes it's not gluten free so you'll have to check for gluten in the recipes. You will also have to take more care than most about supplementing and I suggest you do this with a professional dietitian. Our kids need their nutrients more than anyone.
I am vegetarian, trying to be mostly vegan, mostly health and philosophical, not militant.
Avocados are an ideal food. http://www.phmiracleliving.com/RanchoAvorado.htm I searched the web and found some expensive or local options but gluten and soy are the basis of diet for most western vegetarians. (And dairy/eggs) you probably know about these: http://www.goodbaker.com/qa09.html http://www.enjoylifefoods.com/ http://www.veganoutreach.org/ I want my ddil to return to her traditional diet with rice, vegetables, (small)fish and chicken because she has become anemic and low in other nutrients off it. She is planning to give me grandchildren and I want her body healthy. As a nutrtionist, I believe everyone needs to learn how to their own body and give it what it needs. My autistic son is third+ generation vegetarian and won't allow her to eat her traditional animals.
