Nick’s main stim | Autism PDD

Nick is such a sweetie!  The interaction between the two of you at the end was terrific.

My youngest also likes to run/skip back and forth in the house.

I got my kiddo on video doing is running, skipping, humming, flapping thing just so you guys could see.  He isn't flapping here as much as he usually does, but you can get the gist of it.  You will notice at the end he tells me "I'm Nicholas" when I ask who he is ... this is a new development and I love it.

He can do this back and forth for a LONG time if I don't redirect him.

I wanted to add ... sorry for the Forensic Files in the background ... I really like the show ... LOL!

NYMommyof339361.7438425926Wow - his language has really come a long way, hasn't it?  He's really communicating well with you in the video and his speach is nice and clear- very impressive! fred39361.8175231482Yes, he was very engaged with you, there. His speech is very clear, too! he's
cute!!!

LOL!  Too funny!  He was doing that same thing when I was in the waiting room at the pediatric neurolgist ... I guess it was about a year ago from now ... WOW.

She was seeing another patient but peeked out a few times to watch him ... that was what she said too "this child is autistic ... who has had their head in the sand?"  Ummm ... I guess that would be me!

Aiden has the EXACT same stims. It was to funny I was watching the video and Aiden saw it and said "he's autistic" and walked away.

Funny how Aiden can always tell.

He has nice engagement skills along with looking and asking for it and making his " smile " statement..I understood him perfectly Thanks for sharing:)

SOOOOOOOOO cute
great language - super engagement - what a sweetheart

very cute!

what a cutie! And you're right, he does pace just like Don - they even both
get the arm going up in the air.

I noticed that he paces from carpet to the lino - Don paces from the
carpeted hallway to the hardwood. I wonder if they're doing it because of
the change in sensation between the two surfaces? Or if it's just the longest
path to build up speed

Yes on the speech.  Since June I'd say he has had a major speech improvement.

It's been almost 1 year since his last surgery to repair the inside of his mouth from his cleft, that with the combination of ST every day instead of twice a week, and therapists trained to teach children with autism, he is improving.

Another thing that was pretty striking (for me) was when you called to him and he immediately responded to you even though he was preoccupied with running around - that was cool.  With the girls, I still usually have to call to them several times if they are engaged in something, sometimes I have to raise my voice to get them to respond.  Was this something they've been actively working on, or has it happened on its own?  Was he ever the type of autistic kid that didn't respond readily when his name was called?Hi!  Thanks for sharing your son's video.  He is such a cutie!!  Does he have a "hoppity hop" ball?  My son LOVES it, and it gives him that vestibular movement that he craves.  He bounces, but it's usually in one spot.

Great work on the speech and engagement!!

nakama

What a cutie he is! I love when he saw the camera he said "smile". All of our home videos have Zach stopping and smiling saying "Cheeeeeese" everytime he notices the video camera. It is so funny to watch it now. I wish I could get our vhs videos to the computer or discs.

Hmm Fred - interesting observation.  I guess I didn't notice when that changed or if it has changed.  Sometimes he responds right away, other times he does not.  He's doing great now with realizing and responding to his name, although he doesn't understand that he is also a "boy" ... LOL!  I've been working on that but it hasn't clicked.
