Mom to Quinn,
I agree with Kellie, stay professional and impersonal. If you
feel you are about to blow--excuse yourself go into the restroom and
take some deep breaths to get yourself together. I too would talk
with my supervisor ahead of time about the situation.
Do you mind me asking what type of work place you are in? Was the guy a co-worker or customer?
Funny note: I have a friend who keeps a sign in her office that says:
I'm not mean, you're just a sissy

Keeping it professional and impersonal is the best thing to do.
That way, you cannot be faulted for your demeanor. When I was
working, sometimes I would just take a breather when someone was being
mean -- even if by just going to the bathroom for some deep breathing
and splashing water on my face.. Perhaps it'd be better if you
spoke to your boss before the guy you wrote about speaks to him/her --
just to give a heads-up and explain your side of the situation before
your boss's opinion is tainted.
How do you handle rude clients/cutomers/patients at your workplace!!!! I had to deal with a guy today and it took all I had to remain professional
I will definetly keep my cool.....I'm really a quiet person and it takes a real lot to make me angry........this guy did a good job...............I work in a dental office......this patient wants something done on his tooth that my boss has told him is not possible........ but he was being a real jerk(I don't know how but I kept my cool).......and insisting that he wants a cheaper treatment than the one he needs.....he was also understandably upset that he called us last week and I did not get back to him............for which I appologized........he said he will go to another dentist and wanted to pick up a copy his records right away........he was not happy when I told him they wont be ready until tomorrow....I'm prepared to talk to my boss and let her know what happened and how I could have handled it better....I have already told the office manager and she said don't worry about it but.....I am worried.......I am soo good at worryingthat If I got paid for all the worrying I do I would be rich....lol tahnk you for listening!
Angela
PS...I like the I'm not mean ...you're just a sissy
Thank you so much Eileen
I am really going to try not to worry about it all night.... lol......how it will go what he's going to say when he comes in and so forth............I'm hoping that he has cooled off since yesterday...........by the way...you sound like a great boss to have. I'll post how it went when I get in tomorrow
angela
The patient didn't come in today to pick up his records.....he is coming in tomorrow morning........my boss wasn't in today so I didn't get to talk to her about it unless the office manager already has........so I have to deal with him tomorrow morning.........I prolly wont sleep tonight worrying about how it's gonna go.......and what he will say to the boss and what she will thing.............Thank you for letting me vent.Oh Ang,
I wouldn't worry too much about it. I used to work at a bank, I had a plaque at my desk and it read, "i can only help one person a day, today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either..." and it broke my heart to leave. and I hear ya on bosses, I've had good ones and terrinle ones, hopefully your's is a good one but when it came time for me to manage/supervise my employees I looked at complaints like this, obviously there is a misunderstanding and to get upset over one complaint over the 100's of customers the see in a week is rediculous. Hopefully your boss will see it this way aswell. overall, your performance and customer service skills are fine, you hit one big grump and if wasn't you that he was going to complain about, it would have been someone else... just keep smiling (trust me it KILLS people) hand him his records and wish him a nice day.
Eileen
