Autism can NOT be cured! | Autism PDD

Autism can not, I repeat can NOT be cured. Anyone who tells you otherwise has been fooled. I don¡¯t mean to sound harsh but many people don¡¯t seem to realize that autism is too big of a part of who you are. People who claim to be cured have really just progressed further.

Children with autism are not destined to be mute/retarded/slow forever. It is not a miracle when an autistic boy speaks. He is just developing (however slowly) like any other autistic child. Autistic kids still learn, have fun, read, comminicate, everything they can.

Those ¡°recovery stories¡± are full of lies. Those children are just as autistic as the day they were born. Just because they¡¯e learned to mimick others, or have memorized every repsonse to a ¡°small talk¡± question, does not mean a miracle has happened.

no  disrespect to you but i'm curious about the negative tone of your post.  I understand that an autistic child can not be "cured  but the tone of your post can be a little discouraging for parents with newly diagnosed children or others on this board who work diligently with their children to help them progress.

I am dissapointed also in your wording that "those recovery stories are full of lies"  and I would just say that children who have had made great progress throughout early childhood because of early intervention and diligence on the parents part are "just as autistic as the day they were born'

Maybe it is just me but i'm not understanding your point here.

I have to agree with Carol.

We try and not be overly contentious when possible on this board though heated debates do happen.  I would have to ask that you try and express yourself in a manner more conducive to discourse than to post such a baiting post.

Since  an autism diagnosis is only based on behaviors and there doesn't seem to be anything to my knowledge that definitively shows what autism is how do you know what any individual child's results will be?

I have no agenda about cure/recovery. I think if an individual is no longer fitting the criterion then anyone can call it whatever they like. But your comment about mimicking and memorizing small talk is offensive. Are you saying that all children that have/had an ASD diagnosis and are socializing in a typical way are in fact just mimicking and memorizing? How do you know this?  Why do you choose to be so combative with your statements?

I am moving to lock this one down.  It is only going to create heat and no real good can come of it.

In addition, I have been receiving complaints.

To the original poster, if you would like to discuss these matters in a more congenial fashion I think we all would welcome that.  Opinions are just that...opinions and not fact and your post may fan the flames of those with different beliefs.

I too get the sense of something under these posts that makes me leery in addition to the fact that you are linking to another site.

Please try and be respectful of the other members in your future posts.

sorry about my typos,  just typing fast and got worked up a bit
