milk addiction | Autism PDD

my son has always had what i would call a milk addiction.  yesterday, i was doing autism "research" on the net and looking into the GFCF diets, etc.

so, i read that milk can actually have a dopamine type of effect on some autistic kids, and really dope them up and dull them.  my son loves to drink milk.  it relaxes him and puts him to bed/nap and just calms him down.  he does look kind of doped up when drinking it.  he has always drank way too much milk and really prefers it over food.

i try to avoid giving him milk until after his meals, just to make sure he eats, but... should i be worried... like, really worried about him drinking milk?

and, if i quit his milk, what on earth can possibly replace it? he would go ballistic.

You described my son also.
He was that way and at 18 months we felt it had gone on too long.
We stopped cold turkey.  We went camping (with no dairy) and came back to a dairyfree house.  LIfe was hell for 4 days.  Lots of crying and fits.  Ballistic is a great word.  But, things started improving like I had never seen before.

My son drinks the shelf stable Rice Dream (they make one that is Gluten free in a half gallon, and one that isn't in the half gallon in the fridge here)  We also use Dari Free milk, from Vances, which we order online.

I would encourage you to at least try it.  Maybe it won't change a thing.  But if it totally would, would you want to deny yourself that!
