Still thinking of going GFCF again | Autism PDD

Share

My last attempt was pitiful - I got all the groceries & then chickened out at the last minute. Still have a lot of pantry stuff left over I really think I am going to do the diet again, but it is just SO hard to do. maybe it will be easier now that the kids are older. I was having to feed baby food & breastfeed my daughter at the same time as doing the diet when he was 2 and a half to 3 and a half. So maybe it will be easier with them being 4 & 6. Such a pain tho. I don't know if I can emotionally handle the sacrifices I will have to make to do that diet again (spending all my free time baking & cooking & shopping & going to the organic store on certain days, special ordering, cross contamination, ect.)
I am trying to find the strength in myself (& in my higher power) to try the diet again. i really hated doing it & I didnt see a lot of results with it, but I know that the stimming DID improve. He also did not have a stutter yet, so I have no idea if the diet will help his stutter. Anyway TY for listening!

Go slow. Just get rid of milk products first. Mix the regular milk with rice milk or almond milk for a week and slowly switch over.

Then focus on breakfast. Choose gf cereals. And don't buy the others! Serve eggs made with oil, and homemade fries. Make pancakes from gf flour. Serve with honey, or syrup if your children aren't sensitive to sugar.

Give yourself 2 months to be totally gfcf.

We did go gung ho cold turkey on the milk products, we felt it was the biggest problem.
And life on earth in our home was hell for 4 days.
But, then I could see the sun again!
Life has totally changed for us.  That was 18 months ago
and I would never go back if he continues to have symptoms.

We did CF first and went GF a few months later.
Good luck Hope. Its hard work but if it ends up working for your son its well worth it. We couldn't go back now the change is so dramatic for the kids. Like Bonbon said, go gradually and go casein/dairy free first. It is much easier this way. Go gradually as your son can experience withdrawl and appear worse before improving. At the begining its easier to buy more food that is already prepared( though obviously $$$ more) instead of going crazy trying to bake every thing, till you get the hang of it and discover what the kids like to eat. Dont stress too much about cross contamination. I found that traces have dairy wasn't really a problem. Just eliminating as much as you possibly can from the diet helps. Good luck, I hope it can help your son. Lizcan someone tell me if Jello is okay?
