MY POSTS!!!!! | Autism PDD

WELL everyone else still put there IEP issues in this spot, then what IS CONSIDERED A PARENTS OF AUTISTIC CHILDREN POST, THERES NOW HANGOUT ROOM,MEDICATIONAL/NUTRITIONALFORUM,makes alot of people confused...sorry my own opinion..but does upset me..and yea the ORIGINAL IEP POST WAS A ASD/PDD related issue.

I have had my own posts moved.  And IEP's are still considered educational issues.  I had a post on Jeffrey having a cold and his voice changing, which is dealing with his hormones changing.  That was moved to off topic.  Every kid on the spectrum will have to deal with the hormones changing in their body.  I wasn't happy about it but hey it isn't my message board.  And in a few days some of the IEP threads in the general discussion area will be moved to the educational area or to the off topic thread.  Probably the reason Ernest added the other forums was to keep the main forum focused on autism and pdd related issues.  IEP's are considered education, it has education in IEP, therefore it was moved to the educational forum.

I hope that I dont offend anyone, this is not my board and I receive the service free, so I suppose I really do not have the right to say much. That being said, I cant really say that I understand the category thing. If this board is to pertain to things that concern parents of ASD children, it is confusing that anything and everything that has to do with life with an autistic child doesnt belong here. I often have to run in and out and while it is no ones concern but mine, it is a luxury when I have time to go to all the different sections of this or any other board.

While I understand that IEP's may also need to be under education ( I assume so people other than parents can see them), how can they not belong under this section? If each category is to have its own section (behaviors, nutrition, SPD, other related dx's, education, sibling concerns, child care, medical treatment, diet, therapy, etc, etc) it would get so complicated and time consuming for already stressed parents. Lets take the hormone post, my son is only 4 but it is still a good thing that I be made aware / reminded that these issues will arrive for my son. Hopefully I would also be able to offer support and encouragment to those going through it now, as I learn what they try and how it works.

Now I feel akward about posting anything, is it in the correct section? Will it be moved and I wont know if it was deemed inappropriate and erased or if it was put under another category.

Just my feelings and thoughts, thanks for letting me share them.

WHY ARE SOME OF MY POSTS BEING SWITCHED AROUND HERE!!!!??? I POSTED ABOUT MY IEP BEING DONE W/OUT ME PRESENT AND CANT FIND IT...ALSO SOME OTHERS IVE POSTED ARE BEING MOVED AROUND..WHEN I GO IN HERE I EXPECT TO SEE MY POST AND SOME FEEDBACK BUT THEN AGAIN I NEVER KNOW WHERE THEY'VE BEEN MOVED TO..

Tammy

Posts are being moved to other forums because it makes it easier for people looking for specific information to search for that information.

[QUOTE=ernestpr]
What we have been trying to control is off topic posts of a personal nature. This makes it difficult for others to get the information they are looking for. The complaints I receive are from new users and some existing users who have to wade through dozens of personal message threads before they can get the help they are looking for.

To help eleviate this problem we have created a message board section for personal exchanges. This will make easier for people to converse with off topic discussions and make it easier for those who can get to the information on the on topic boards.

Kindest Regards,

Ernest

While I agree topics about an IEP, medication, therapy, an autism conference etc. are related to issues parents deal with, by seperating the information it makes it easier to search for help if you are looking for something specific. No one is being banned for posting in an off area. Posts are not being deleted.

We ask EVERYONE please take a look at the different forums that are set up. Look at the description under each and TRY YOUR BEST to post accordingly.

Autism Care Issues
Parents of Autistic Children
Issues related to care givers of autistic children
Autism Education Issues
Discussions about school issues, IEP's and Autism. IDEA and TEACCH
Autism Resources
Discuss financial, legal and educational resources for Autism

Autism Events
Autism Conferences
If you have any conferences or other events on autism you would like to post, please do so.

Hangout Room
Hangout with Friends
Connect with friends for off topic discussion

Alternative Autism Treatments
Autism Diets
Discuss different diets for autism
Oral Chelation
Sharing Information about chelation methods.
Other Treatments
Medical and bio medical treatments, supplements, vitamins, and more

FOR EXAMPLE:
While poems of inspiration and humor that only parents of special needs children would understand is appreciated, it is not an issue related to care givers of autistic children; it would belong in the Hangout with friends forum.

Conferences and workshops or walks  - although they are issues that are related to care givers of autistic children, there is a specific section for them.

All IEP related information should go under the AUTISM EDUCATION ISSUES forum as it is  for Discussions about school issues, IEP's and Autism. IDEA and TEACCH

Information on scholarships, and grants, SSI etc. should be posted under Autism Resources - Discuss financial, legal and educational resources for Autism

The board isn't perfect, there will be mistakes, and some topics will be missed occassionally and left in an off area, but for the most part we are trying to keep topics together which in hope will reduce redundant threads and make it easier to find the advice, suggestions, and help members are looking for.

Thanks for the help and understanding!

THANK YOU, I UNDERSTAND NOW...SORRY ITS JUST BEEN A BADD WEEK I DIDNT MEAN TO SOUND SNAPPY...BUT I WILL POST ACCORDINGLY...WHEN IM STRESSD over school,or son and wanna post i automatically go straight to the parents section..its where I started here in the beg.IM still computer illiterate but learning.lol

Thanks Michelle. I understand your point (very well explained I might add).

I think when I joined the board all they had were just a few forums, and I know it took me a while before I knew the other few existed even! Now there are probably twice as many so it can be confusing - ESPECIALLY when we are stressed!

Thanks for the explanation, I will (always do ) abide by the rules. This is a wonderful board and I will try to figure out what should go where. I still dont understand why IEP questions need to be seperated, but hey, I dont understand how to perform brain surgery either.

Thanks for allowing me to belong here.

Jean, trying to explain what I THINK on this one.....

I think we need to keep in mind that alot of these posts come up when people do a search through google or any other search engine. Alot of times there are parents out there who do not know about this site who search for information on autism or IEP's etc. By having separate forums, if someone finds the site through a search that takes them to lets say a How do I deal with my autistic child's behaviors? thread in the parents forum..... They read, hopefully they feel the friendly help here, like the good advice, and decide to check out the site. By seeing a seperate forum for IEP's, Autism Education, IDEA and TEACCH (being its an issue nearly everyone of us struggle with) maybe they will click on it and check out the help and info that is there. Maybe they join, then the members grow and there are more heads to put together to think with; to offer help, info, support, advice, resources, etc.  Or at least thats kinda my take on WHY. (I could be totally wrong) I do know (as I stated a few sentences ago) Autism Education is a HUGE area of concern.... maybe the site creators (on that alone) decided it best to give it its own forum feeling the number of threads there would be overwhelming. (?)

My personal feelings? Heres my prediction.....  I can imagine this happening,.......... Once school starts and gets going for everyone and parents are seeing violations in the IEP's, their child needing more or different services, problems with the IEP being followed etc there will probably be ALOT more IEP posts all around the same time... might be a few weeks into the start of the year - might be around the time of the first report cards.....  can you imagine trying to sift through all the IEP threads mixed in with the How do I potty train?, What do I do for a runner?, How do I avoid /handle meltdowns?. Child not sleeping, Sensory issues please help, etc threads. And if theres a new diagnosis member coming to post for help, or someone coming to look for general info because their child MIGHT have an ASD, or even any member who might be having a bad day and need support / advice to have to sift through all those things to find help would be so time consuming!

So maybe with separated forums, members and guests can just search the area they need most and read the rest at their leisure should they chose to. Some members may choose not to read education issues at all yet because their child isnt yet in school and maybe they dont feel they can contribute. Or the same with diets, chelation, or other treatments.

Anyway Like I said Thats just my "take" on it and I could be wrong. I know I have seen message boards that show each reply to a thread as a new thread and to me that is VERY confusing..... I know some new members have said they have never used a message board and don't know how it works... I know Some people have mentioned having trouble finding a thread they started 2 days earlier because they are new and dont know about clicking to the next page or using the search button at the top of the page..... I have even heard some people say they didnt even know another forum area existed! So there could be a number of reasons to separate it.

I think the hard part is deciding where to post when its about 2 things in the same thread (example: your child is a runner and keeps disappearing they have been found 4 blocks away twice already this week... school is starting, and you are worried he might take off since he has at home, the sitters, and at his grandparents house - any suggestions?) Where would that belong? Education issues since it asks about the school?  or Parent issue since it is mainly about the child being a runner and what can be done? I think thats what we need to decide when we post,..........

Apparently "posts" can't be in color form, either.  Didn't know there were rules here.  I THOUGHT I was allowed to post what I feel AND to help others.  But because "some" supposedly are having a hard time reading my colored lines, I feel like I don't belong here...feel rather shunned and slighted.

There is nothing wrong in using one color.  The issue is more in using a different color for each sentence.  I personally don't feel like wearing sunglasses to view a message board at night.  Also some people might have older monitors and older computers that don't support multiple color formats appropriately.  Some of us might even have children that can actually read the message board and they even might have sensory issues.  If you saw a message board that was like that, would you want to wear sunglasses to be able to even view it?  I know I wouldn't.

You are allowed to post what you feel and to help others. In fact, its encouraged! Hopefully we can all be respectful of one another in doing so.

As a mod when something is brought to my attention it is my responsibility to say something. Keeping that in mind, after it was brought to my attention that some members had problems reading the posts with the multiple colors I did bring it to your attention in a PM. I was neither rude nor disrespectful to you and said I was sorry it sounded petty. The decision was yours as far as if you wanted to change the multiple colors, or continue posting using them despite some people saying they had difficulty reading them. You weren't told it was against any rules or shunned
