Cole has a friend at school! In his Reduced Numbers Class, there are a couple boys in there with him and are 2 years older.
They start their circle time together and each has to say how he is feeling, emotionally. Cole will say he is happy, but is not smiling. So his friend J says, Cole - cmon, I'll help you with the comuter - that will make you smile! The sweet fellow J apparently doesn't like the discrepancy between Cole's stated happiness and his bland expression.
So they go over to the computer, and the older boy gets the headphones out and puts them on Cole. Other times, if Cole is struggling with one of the harder programs, J will hear him saying "its too hard. Help me!" and he runs over to Cole saying "I'll save you Cole!" and helps him.
Last Thursday, Cole tells the teacher (and later, me) "J is my friend! He helps me work on the computer. J makes he happy!" and this time he IS smiling ear to ear.
Cole has a friend!

Congratulations... and many more friends to come!LeAnne, how much better can life get than having a friend? Especially a friend who cares how you are feeling? Great for Cole. Your heart must be full!
I love these stories. Thanks for sharing.
That is so absolutely wonderful to hear! Sounds like a great friend!Hurray for Cole - that is awesome!
Thanks, ya'll! We've now decided to have a small Halloween party for the boys and a handful of their friends - and you can bet J will be there! It'll be the weekend before Halloween so they will have an extra chance to wear their costumes.
FYI, for those of you not redneck enough to come up with this, here is a FUN thing to do with kids! My husband has one of those projection machines you hook up to your laptop so you can make big business presentations on a screen in front of a crowd.
We are setting it up in the back yard and projecting a movie onto a sheet hung on the back porch. Maybe ET or Surfs Up? Yes! It's a drive in movie in the backyard! When the ground is soggy, we put a giant blue FEMA tarp on the grass so the kids can loll around and watch the show, cook marshmallows over the little firepit, etc. And of course, we serve the adult beverages out of a washtub filled with ice!
Am so happy for our boy! Thanks for your kind notes back.
Ah, that is beautiful! I'm so happy for Cole and J.
