Zach and medicine | Autism PDD

Sarah! Sorry to hear Zach is sick! I know it hard when they wont take medicine. Don't know ho wmuch you have to get in him but maybe you can put it in a syringe dispenser and shoot it in his throat real quick over and done with. OR ask your pharmacist about adding the flavoring to his med. they have ALOT of flavors to choose from.  Also maybe bribery??? take the medicine and get a favorite treat of some sort to wash the taste away.  Maybe you can also get pill form and crush it up to hide in something he likes maybe the taste wont be as noticable.

Hope he feels better soon. If he absolutely refuses (my niece hated meds like that) you could ask the dr to give him a shot, altough I would personally only do that as a last resort.

Luke refuses to take any medication either.  We have to force it down his throat.  he screams and kicks and does everything he can to refuse it, and sometimes it takes 2 of us to hold him down ... but if it's something he needs, then it's just what we have to do.  Sorry no help here.

What about a shot?  Or is he too young for the shot?

Tammy

It depends on the antibiotic..theory has it that any penicillin based antibiotics can be mixed up with food..think icecream topping, pudding and there isn't as much of a nasty aftertast.  My drug of choice even for strrep is zithromax..smaller dose, only 5 days...but can't hide it (literature says that it shouldn't be mixed with food, but I do it anyway...horrid aftertaste). My daughter when she was smaller had strep a couple of times and I did have to resort to using a syringe and shoving it down her throat while holding her mouth shut. Horrible and made me feel horrible! HOWEVER, she is none the worse for it and the medicine does have to make it in. /one time she had the shot too and that worked o.k.  I am sure that most of us have been in your shoes and antibiotics by nature taste bad (except perhaps amoxycillin)..I hope you find something that works for you!

Renee

p.s. Hope that Zach is better soon!

Yikes strep, hope he feels better soon!

We have the same problem with ds.  We usually give up trying to hide it and waste it!  We hold him down and shoot it in!  Makes you feel just awful but ds usually leaves us no choice.

Good luck.  Let us know if you find something that works!

Hey everyone

Hi guys, it's Sarah, my computer is still broke thus why i'm not posting much, but i have been reading.... i just have a quick question.... Zach has strep throat and i can't get him to take his antibiotics... i've tried putting it in juice and milk and He refuses to drink either.... he doesn't see me put it in, but one sip of it and He knows something is off and won't finish it.... if anyone has any ideas.... id really appreciate it... of course the Dr. was useless when it came to this.  Thanks
