ok heres the deal .today we went to a hearing with the bdds program and a judge.see bdds wont help us with shawn cause they say hes not basically disabled enough but what really got us is this. the rep. for bdds said pdd is not a developmantal disorder.can you believe that.but however adhd is.according to them pdd is a mental disorder not a developmental one and adhd is developmental and not mental.can anyone explain this to me cause i dont understand it one bit.neither does any of the theripists we took with us.shawn has only been in school 2 days and they already moved him to 2 hrs a day cause he cant handle it.hes beating up kids in our neighborhood,peeing in the corner of his room ,messing outside,he hit his teacher on the first day.what can we do?hes supposed to be in the 4th grade but he can bearly read and write.hell he cant read at all he spells a little.he is about a first grade level.but these people say they cant help us.everywhere we turn the door gets slamed in our faces.how can we get our son and the rest of the family the help and education we need if no one will help us. but now it is the waiting game to see what the judge decides and we should have an answer in about 10 days.until then well just see what we can find on our own.thanks for letting me spout off and please let me know what you think.honestly i think its all bull----.but thats my opinion.

Hi ttsunrise, so sorry you guys are going through this...I feel for you and your son! So pdd which stand for pervasive DEVELOPMENT disorder is not a DEVELOPMENTAL disorder...that makes tons of sense in bizaro world! ugh...its both actually in my opinion but I just hope that the judge helps you all I wish I knew better what to say to help...just here if you need to vent!

ttsunrise so sorry to hear about your day! Hey spout off all you want. Just don't don't give up the fight! We are here to support you.Ttsunrise that is sooo horrible what you are going through! Why is it so cotton picken hard to get the help these kids need?! Whoever told you PDD isn't a development problem doesn't have a clue as to what they are talking about. I am sure you are more informed than they are on the subject. Ugh! I can't believe they said that to you! Fight with ALL your Might!!!May I ask what bdds is? What state you are in?
I know that some of the school districts are being allowed great wiggle room. PDD is the same thing as autistic spectrum disorder. It should be fairly simple to have a Dr change the dx to ASD. Seems like a silly waste of time and money, but if that is what you 'need' to get services, should be really simple. As I have learned, I see why our diagnosing Dr went from global DD, to PDD, to ASD to autism. SHe told me that nothing on earth would make her happier than to reevaluate my son and test him off the spectrum at a later date.
We are in a like situation here. ADHD gets some services that autism doesnt...I find it all insane. The powers that be need to wake up, they will either help our children gain independence and education now, or they will be taking care of some of them for life.
