I know I just answered it on the other thread, but my son is PDD-NOS and gets SSI. Everything can be done from home with it even. Go to SSA.gov and there's a child disability report. At the end it tells you to fill out however many release forms you need. Then you can mail those in and call your SSA office and make an appt for an over the phone application meeting. Doing it in that order, we were able to get word on if he was approved within 2 weeks. Of course, it can still take 2 months or so, but that's how I did it. My 4yr old son Isaiah was diagnosed w/ PDD. I am feeling very confused and trying to get myself educated. We are seeing an excellent Psychiatrist and started medicine. Isaiah has had rages for over a year and it's been a tough year! Can anyone tell me does a child w/ PDD qualify for SSI? Does a child out grow it or will it most definately devolop into asperbergers or more severe form of autism? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.  Your son is very unlikely to regress to a more severe form of autism, and very likely to progress to a better level of functioning.  He might end up functioning at the level people generally associate with Aspergers, but if he has or has had language delays, Aspergers would not be the correct label, even in adulthood.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the SSI question, since I'm in Norway and we have a different system.

I'm assuming that rages are the same as meltdowns, and I do have some free online resources on that subject.  Other mothers on this forum have found them helpful, even life changing.

Good luck with everything!

Welcome to the forum! I think it is also a matter of where you live if you qualify and what your income is. It is not that easy here in pennsylvania. My dd does not qualify for it.

I was unable to qualify for SSI as I make "too much money" ... ah, ok ...

But, it is what it is.
