C is labeling animals and telling us what they are now, instead of us telling him "PIG!" and him saying "PIG!" he showed me his toy pig, smiled and said"PIG!!" I was very excited!
My youngest is initiating social greetings and using names all on his own without prompting!
My oldest son is so excited because he just joined the school band. He's playing the trombone and so far I don't need ear plugs!
I think this is funny, maybe Abby should not be using this word, But it is a complete sentence. My husband and Abby sit outside alot at night to look at the stars, one of Abby's favorite things to do. Sometimes when cars drive up our street and go really fast Abby screams out, " Hey, slow down Punk!" it is hysterical, we consider it an accomplishment , not only is she using words but she is using them correctlyOK, this is a funny one only parents of ASD kids could appreciate. C has mastered hide and seek! You know how when the kids hide and you walk around the house you start talking and saying stuff like "ok, where are you guys" and so on? Well for years, when I'd walk into a room and say "where's C" he would jump out with a big smile and say "here I am!!!" He was also so easy to find because he just couldn't hide quietly and he couldn't not answer me when I started talking. Just in the past few weeks, he's figured out that he's supposed to wait for me to find him. Now he finds good hiding spots and can hide really quietly, and he doesn't respond when I start saying "ok, where's C, I know he's here somewhere." He waits for me to actually find him and then he starts giggling once I do.
Sam walked to the bus stop with 2 of his school buddies today. He watched for them out the window and when he saw them he QUICKLY got ready and ran out to met them. I watched the three of the walk away, talking about Bioicles. Sam didn't even think to say goodbye to me, he was sooo excited to see his friends. The bus stop is only a block away, but it is out of my sight, and they have to cross the road.(Not really dangerous in our very rural area) He's growing up so fast.
I love these stories.

Mr. B got a haircut...with no meltdown, no twisting, screeching, no trying to get away, no "windmill" cut!
Before we went, we walked him through the steps of the haircut using his PECS, and a "FIRST haircut, THEN McDonalds." Got there, the usual place I use was closed. We decided to try a barbershop close by that has opened recently called "Sports Clips" - looks like a locker room, small TVs at each station playing football games, big screen in the waiting area, and stylists in soccer uniforms and referee shirts - definitely catering to men and boys! Used his PECS "tickets" - he went in, sat down, looked around while waiting, then held his "tickets" as we went through the haircut (comb, scissors, haircut, blowdryer), and even said "Thank you" when we were done. He startled a couple of times when blowdryers went off, but looked over, checked it out, and then looked back at the mirror again. Absolutely no problem! My eldest was wondering if I'd traded him overnight!
Given his hair was down over his eyes (we've been postponing this for a while), I just had to laugh when, after his bangs were cut, he looked in the mirror, smiled at me and the stylist and said "Oh...THERE's Brennan!"
Add to that, the reward was...of course... the trip to McDonalds playland. Got there, the playland was closed for repairs, so we had to get back in the car without ordering after all of us getting out, etc. Although he started to cry while getting in the car and immediately started rocking in his seat, when we explained "Playland broken, we're going to another McDonny's (his word)", he responded with "Okay", calmed himself down, and we found another location he could enjoy. After such incredible cooperation and calming himself, no way was I NOT going to find a "McDonnys"!
Parker has asked a few, "What's that questions", and I was so shocked! I never thought he would do that! THank goodness for school and aba therapy! Congrats to the rest of you!My nonverbal son told his teacher and ST twice "done". When he was finished working. He as said this at home but not outside of home. They finally believe me that he can say something. I've got a few - Don's been on a good streak the last few days!
I know he meant Volvo, but that's not how it came out. And
This is more shocking to dw and I than anything but we are still very proud.
I asked Jay if he had to go poop, he then responded no dad I don't want go poop.
After I got my jaw off the floor dw and I started laughing about it because he said it with such authority lol. He has never put more than three word together before so we were floored when this came out.
I'm enjoying this thread as well. My son is doing soo well. He can now write his name, its a bit messy but he knows what he is doing and he does get it out and in order with the letters now. He can spell it and do the sign language to it ( most the time lol).Yay for everyone....these small things really aren't so small when you think about it.
Mine is short and sweet....we have been bite free for 3 weeks. WOW. That could all change tomorrow. But he is sleeping and it is almost midnight...so the record stands as such.
Quinn tried Mac and cheese tonight and liked it!
Even though it's only mac & cheese i'm so happy because he is such a picky eaterThis was over the summer but one of my favorite campers T has a pushing problem. One day after he pushed a boy we went for a walk and he turned to me and said "did you see me upstairs? I pushed S because I got frustrated!" Gotta love the recognition!
Last week my dd answered a little boy, looking him right in the face, when he asked her what her phone number was. She didn't even pause to process it. I was very excited!
