I would say what's happened is the first check is the difference in what you received and what you should have received, because, like you said, you over averaged your monthly salary.
This is basically what happened with us, although it was my husband's place of employments fault. They had to fill out a proof of wages sheet, which they did incorrectly. Because of this, the SSI checks were based on about 00 a month, which is what he earned for only one month due to overtime. Because the company filled it out as though that was his monthly earnings every month, the 4 is all our son was due to receive. However, when we took in pay stubs, things were recalculated and he then received a check for around 0 to make up the difference between what he did get and what he should have gotten.
The check dated for Oct. 1, is more than likely the Oct. benefits check. In the three months our son has gotten SSI, the checks have always been here by the 30th of the month.
I was surprised his check didn't arrive yet for October. My husbands job was terminated due to the company moving to Mexico at the begining of August, he's yet to receive any unemployment benefits due to a screw up at the unemployment office and his former employer not returning forms on time. The unemployment office has him down as receiving a pension, which he wasn't even eligible for, so no money from there yet. What little savings we had is gone after paying bills for August and September and so the only money we have coming in this month will be our son's SSI check. It won't come anywhere close to paying all of our bills, our housepayment alone is around 00
We had a problem getting the SSI set up for direct deposit, so it will be Nov. before the check goes directly into the bank. So, we're waiting on that paper check to come in the mail, but we've had problems in the past with our mail not being delivered on time. For example, our daughter was tested for the accelerated learners program at the end of last school year. I got the letter saying she had been accepted into the program on July 9. The postmark was May 31.
So, I'm hoping his check gets here Monday, not sometime in December! They back pay you from when you first apply to when you get your first check. Even if it's only 30 days.Could that be the mystery check? If the second check is dated October 1, I'm thinking they messed up and mailed out next month's benefits early. Sounds like you got a backpay check too. We've been getting it since August. First two checks weren't that much, but they did help get stuff for school. Anyways, I'm very confused about something. We got a check in yesterday for a much larger amount. We had already figured out that we made an error in how much we told them we make (we make significantly less than what we averaged) so weren't that shocked when we got a larger amount for the check. Well, today we get another check in the mail. Not the grand amount we got yesterday, but still not the same small amount of the first two.Yep all the previous posters are right you get a really nice chunk of backpay depending on how long your application took to be approved. And yes they routinely run your income and if you were owed more they would up your check. Within the next week you will a form letter explaining BOTH checks if they have upped amounts and sent out backpay.
By all means call them as desired but its very common practice with them. With my son we actually found he was approved via the 2000 dollar check coming in the mail heh. The letter showed up days later.
Well, we were told when we got his first check in August that we didn't qualify for backpay. The application process only took us 2 weeks. So that being the case, and the fact that we've already had 2 checks before we got the "back pay check" that we were told we weren't supposed to get is confusing me quite a bit. I'm still going to call tomorrow to make sure. I just don't want to be wrong in case there was a clerical error.
