I live in Massachusetts.  I am really impressed with Shrewsbury Public Schools, Dudley-Charlton Regional School District, Brookline, and Newton to name a few.  This website is pretty general but gives you a good start when considering districts:

Here is the Mass DOE special education link:

Hope those help!
Looking for some advice.  I will be relocating to Massachusetts and am looking for advice on which school districts to consider.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks! For Special Ed,  I can tell you to stay away from Marblehead public schools unless you are ready to shell out a ton of $$ on attorney's fees. They have a program on paper that looks terrific but is absolutely disgraceful.

I have heard great things about Wenham and Acton. Have a good friend in Topsfield that is pleased and have heard good things about Newburyport.

Once you move up here, contact the North Shore Arc (great support groups and information).

If you need any info on Psychologists, Specialists, etc., please feel free to contact me directly.

If your looking in central mass, I'd call the the autism resource center  of central mass. www.arccm.org. Ames mentioned shrewbury, which I agree but do know of a parent having serious issues with the school dept in charlton.  The ARCs are a good place to start.

I do have first hand experience with greater lawrence education collabritive. They are in Methuen, MA.

They are horrible. My son was treated very bad there. Just something to be aware of...

He is in a wonderful school now!!!

We are in Boston, and so far Boston Public Schools have worked out really well for Nicholas...you need to fight for what you want, but MA DOE has helped me a lot...thanks Eileen

I've heard great things about Shrewsberry...I'd stay away from Revere, Ma...my two friends are dealing w/ a nightmare right now...

Wishing you lots of luck, and depending on how old your child is, there is a great ABA program which is free for 1-3 yr olds called Building Blocks I would highly recommend.

hugs!

Ali

Sweet !!! I hope Nicholas gets what he's entitled to!!

Eileen

I live in Taunton Mass...I do not recommend.  My son is 4 and we have only had a small taste of the public schools and they are awful.  We have a for sale sign on our front lawn.

We have researched this in the south of boston area and we are concentrating on Mansfield, Sharon and Easton.  I hear Halifax has a good program too, but that is on the shoreline of mass and too far from our families, work etc.

Good luck with your search

Hi ...I have a girlfriend who is a special ed eacher in Lynn, and has a terrible time getting anything for the kids in her care. She is a wonderful and caring person but the school is a horror!

Hmm, Interesting so many of you live in Mass.  I live in Utah, out in the boondocks, but then my Mark is 21 and is no longer in school, except what he receives from me.  And he has learned a lot and grown so much since we moved out here.
